my first husband had the same problem. his choice of slow suicide was vodka and vicodin. 35 years he continued on after my baby and i left him. he died alone about 2 years ago just around the corner from his sober living house. so sad. good luck with your dad. my heart goes out to you and your family. it's not a pretty picture. best wishes. belle
I'm sorry, I've watched this happen in real life and it breaks my heart.
Like rivil I hope that you find a support group...but we are here if you need to vent.
Hi candi, I am very sorry about your dad. At this point in his life, he makes his own choices. He has chosen to run himself into the ground. It will not be easy for you and his loved ones to witness, but it is really out of your hands.
You cannot make a grown man change his ways.
All you can do is be there for the other loved ones and let them support you through your grief. If you don't have anyone to reach out to try children of alanon, or an aa support group for families.
I wish you all the best.
