I had to watch that Idol show with Steven Tylar after all the comments here and he seemed like a nice guy and I didn't even know he did that dream on song which I love, I am so out of it now, but it was a one time fun to watch thing.

Mike: "it's like a beauty pageant which I also hate."

Yeah - me to buddy. Especially them swimsuit segments. I wished they'd cover them girls up. Like get rid of them swimsuits and give 'em some Saran Wrap or something.

JLO of the infamous payola scheme......couldn't even get her music on the radio without all the record companies money. No I dont think she should be a judge but people are fascinated with her diva status so that is why she is there.

I fell in love with the Beatles when I was two years old and never looked back. My only problem with them is trying to figure out which was truly my favorite.

Since i was at woodstock when I was just a kid I guess it gives me a different perspective.

I was never into Hendrix or Joplin or even the Beatles...    Actually, I didn't start being able to listen to the radio where I could choose my own type of music until the 70's.  Being as in 1970, I was only 9 yrs old and my parents didn't like the acid rocker form of music.  My husband on the other hand, is a fan of Hendrix and Joplin.  Personally, whenever he's played it, I still don't care for it much.  I'm much more of a Steve Miller Band type of girl, or Lynnard Skynard, or the Eagles, or Foreigner, as opposed to acid rocker music.

Then again, I'm a girl from the south, so there you go...

How about John Mayall, yeah Jimi Hendrix would have made a great Judge too.  or Janis Joplin.  Its all mind candy, its actually kind of nice to see some or the renegades on these mind candy shows.  TV could have been such a wonderful tool in the right hands, but instead we have the same ole BS, with an occasional show that is worthy of time.
I remember going to a little club in Marin County 1988, Van Halen was playing and Carlos Santana was in the audience, he got up and started jamming with Van and it cost me $7.50 to get in and the room was probably 1200 sq/ ft.  those were the days,
Any more musical memories?

Well Susan, I hate the show and have always hated it. I can understand why people like it and it is probably why I detest it. So, given that you like the show I get it whay you like Steven Tyler on it.
I hate to see people humiliated even if they seem to be begging to be humiliated.
I don't believe that real genius talents are ever going to be rewarded there either.
I doubt that if Jimi Hendrix was a contestant he'd go very far or Janis Joplin or Van Morrison or Michael Jackson. I think it is the epitome of absurdity that a few people sit in judgment of other people's talent or lack thereof - it's like a beauty pageant which I also hate.
I thought Steven Tyler did some great work - some real artistic work. When I see him descend to the level of being a judge on a show like Idol it strikes me as desperate and unbecoming in the truest sense of the word. But, I suppose if I liked the show I'd be pleased that Steven was on it. I mean look who has been on the show. And by the way, do you think Jennifer Lopez is qualified to judge musicians or vocalists? Well, if she does it is certainly not based on what she's done - is it?
I am not going to get too worked up over it. I don't watch it and I don't intend to watch it so I have an entirely different perspective.

I totally don't agree!  However, everybody is entitled to their own opinion.  I think that he adds something to the show.  I found it very entertaining myself.  It was a heck of a lot more funny than listening to Simon blast everybody, which I never cared for.  And I really don't like Ellen, I never have and I was so glad when they got rid of her.

Maybe Van the Man will be a judge someday. If they offered him the job I seriously doubt he'd consider it for a second.
Some people in that business really do have some principles - hopefully. Steven looks like an idiot doing that show.

I agree what is he doing on that show myself.........all is well while he is being good but if he falls off the wagon (which is the historic thing to do) while he is on that show - you know they are going to fire him big time and it will make such a public spectacle - it worries me. You know they are testing him and it's part of his contract. Think optimistic is one thing but this IS Steven Tyler.

I wish he'd just have stayed with the band and worked on this last album they have to do for Sony and made it a great one. But I guess they paid him pretty darn well and after his wife left, I guess he needs it......plus he is the biggest showboater in the world and at 62 not too many chances left at that.

Good for him....... I think its great some of these stars are making themselves available to the little people.
My favorites still remain, Jackie Wilson, John Chippelena (sp), Van Morrison, but those days are gone........

Actually that's what I'd usually say about him too that he's still suffering serious treatment brain fog but what I did see of him on the show (which isn't much I dont want to get caught up into Idol again) he was quite articulate and thoughtful.  Amazing what really being sober can do - all the years of faking it........but when you see it for real it's a breath of fresh air.

When I see Steven Tyler doing Idol I see a guy who must be suffering from serious brain fog.
It's pathetic.
Can you imagine Mick Jagger or Pete Townsend or Bruce doing that?

I was wondering the same thing...  NYGirl7 where are you girl?

I loved Idol, thought it was the funniest ever.  Way better than when Simon or Ellen were on there.  Got a great laugh out of it.
