My Son had surgery on July 12. The surgery lasted 3 hrs. The doctor stated that the hole was the size of a baseball and that fat from the large intestine grew up throw the hole.He was in the hospital for 3 nights.
He is doing pretty good but the surgery was harder on him than we thought it would be. The doctor said he will have to always watch it, He will have to have a chest xray every 6 months and then they will move it to once a year.
Hello and hope you are doing well.
Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) is defined by the presence of a defect in the diaphragm, that permits the herniation of abdominal contents into the thorax. This is usually associated with a hypoplastic lung so most patients present early in life rather than later. However, a subset of adults may present with a smaller congenital hernia that was undetected during childhood. The herniation may have been minimal for your son, hence it may not have been detected earlier.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
