2 year old with herpes like sores

About 3 days ago I got back from a business trip to find that my 2 year little girl had little sores all over her face. She had been home with my wife while i was out of town. She had total of 11 sores on her face. Mostly around her lip. Around the edge of her lips. They were some what small. over the last day or so they have erupted into big oozing sores. 2 at the top but not on her lips. 3 or 4 below her lips. 1 on her nose and for head and a massive oozing sore about the size of a dime on her ear lobe. No fever at all. Went to doc and they ere not concerned, the said it will go away on its own. It seems like herpes but Ive never seen anyone get it this bad. The doc said it could be any type of infection nothing specific. Any thoughts?

Does your wife have a history of cold sores?

Your daughter's symptoms sound consistent with oral HSV, but your doc is right - it could also be other things. However, I'm quite surprised they didn't swab the blisters. Since it's been less than 48 hours, I'd go back right away and get them swabbed for a PCR DNA test for HSV - make sure you ask for type-specific results.

The caveat: lots of kids get cold sores when they're kissed by family members. Your little girl would hardly be the first. It's quite common. Best to you!

I would get a second opinion. My oldest son had something very similar last year and it ended up being cold sores. Started out small and he kept picking at them because they bothered him then spread to his cheeks in a rash.
Maybe take her to the emergency room. Can get a faster opinion that way and ask they do a swab to test the sores.   Best of luck. Hope she feels better soon!
