Acyclovir Dosages

Is taking the dosages of 800mg twice a day sufficient enough for Acyclovir outbreaks?

is it possible to become resistant to Acyclovir if taken at high dosages?

Just curious,  if Prednisone is an immunosppressive,  why would it not cause more outbreaks of cold sore?  Your statement seem to imply that predisone actually helps lessen the severity of.  Cold sores?

I recently had to take prednisone because of the severity of the "cold sores"

It always seems to clear up the breakouts a lot faster. Though, I do not likle the way it makes me feel at times. I have been taking the suppressive therapy while on prednisone (tappering down now).

I hope this will help sustain any other further outbreaks.

hey Grace

its great to hear from you.
ok I will remember this from now on. :) thanks

the only thing is that
I have been taking it for about a week and a half now and it seems like the more that it heals. the more blisters occur.

I have it orally. It is on the outside and the inside of my mouth.

when it becomes too severe, I have to take prednisone.

suppressive therapy with acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day.

the rates of acyclovir resistance are still the same as they were when the medication was first discovered for use with herpes over 25 years ago. No worries about resistance.
