Acyclovir For Genital Hsv-2 side effects

Hi guys, I was recently diagnosed with Genital Hsv-2 and I've been taking acyclovir-400mg to suppress my outbreak symptoms.. I know you have to drink a lot of water with this particular medication or it can cause long-term problems with your kidneys. I've been trying to drink as much water as I can while taking the pills and the one time I did urinate it was the regular yellowish-color and I just so happened to go to the bathroom again and my urine is clear? Is this due to how much water I could be consuming or is there an issue with this medication? Thanks for all your responses the medical center on my campus is terrible with explaining things and never instructed me how to take the medication I was told by my bestfriend who also suffers from genital Hsv-2..

give it a full month and if it's still swollen, time to follow up on it again.

lol ewwww. It was a form of a staph infection so they added an antibiotic to the other one, I'm taking amoxicillin and bactrim and I go every two days for them to check it but it seems to be healing up they took the packing out and it doesn't really drain anymore

are they testing it for MRSA?

keep up the compresses and squeeze out anything you can when it looks like something that to squeeze ( or call me, I love to squeeze pus out of boils like that...lol )

thank you but it wasn't even my lymph node... I went to the ER and I had a huge abscess in my groin area thanks to a misdiagnosis from my campus clinic (yay!)...I had to get it drained and it hurted so bad and now I'm on a bunch of antibiotics because it was so huge....

Yes I am. Does anyone know how long it takes for a swollen lymph node to go back to normal because both of them were swollen in my groin area.. my right seems to have gone back to regular size but my left one is huge to the point where it's starting to scare me. It hurts to move my leg a certain way and I can barely walk :(

actually with oral acyclovir ( the pill form you are taking ), there isn't a risk of kidney issues as long  as you aren't elderly and don't have any underlying kidney disorders.  No need to increase your water intake, just drink the normal amount of fluids that you always do :)  there also isn't any reason for any routine blood work because of being on suppressive therapy - just a fyi.

are you taking 400mg twice a day for suppressive therapy?

Acyclovir is one of the safest drugs available. In initial research with it, side effects were identical in frequency and severity with those reported by control subjects taking placebo, and there is nothing in your symptoms that suggest acyclovir is the cause. Taking lots of fluids won't hurt, and will keep your urine less concentrated (hence less coloful), but there is no need for extra fluids while taking acyclovir. And you're on a very low dose anyway; as much as 10 times your dose is entirley safe.

It is because you are drinking so much water. It's good.
