Anyone else long-term?

I have had HSV2 since 1990, when I was 19 years old.
Every time I have a flare, I'm reminded of how dumb I was.

But, there's nothing I can do about that now, right?

Has anyone else been dealing with it long-term?
Please tell me all about it.

Hey PJE,
I too have been dealing with it for about 20 years or so.  And we were all dumb at that age so don't beat yourself up.
My first ob was pretty severe:  felt like 'cutting' all the way through my urethra & all my lymph nodes were swollen & painful, flu-like symptoms.  I had frequent ob's early on, but now, I might have one per year and the symptoms have lessened dramatically. I took Valtrex during the ob, but never had to go on suppression.
I educated myself & others, and learned to recognize what my body was telling me.  Pre-outbreak I would feel a tingly sensitive area on an area of my thigh (like you had tape on your skin & pulled it off suddenly), or an uncontrollable itchy raw spot... this was prior to sores developing.  Also, my lymph nodes in my groin area would become sore.  Sometimes, I'd have "phantom" pain in my extremities, especially in the toes.  My sores would develop anally, so they were similar to hemorrhoids. Prep H would really help!
Now, I don't have any of that...if I do get that random ob once a year, I have a script of Valtrex on hand just in case.
Know your triggers (heavy genital friction, stress levels, immune issues, etc) and take care of yourself.

Hey, Jsue331--thank-you so much for your comment. It's so good to know that someone out there understands.  I have similar symptoms during an ob also. But sometimes the pre-ob symptoms are harder to detect nowadays. Sometimes I have tingling in the genital area, but not as much as before when I first caught it. During this last ob, I had really bad nerve pain in my legs, which I never had before.  I think what triggered this outbreak is when I had the flu, along with another respiratory infection, this January and February. I hope next year's flu shot covers fully, because this last flu shot I took was very weak.

I've recently had an encounter and I've been experiencing some genital discomfort. At 5 weeks I tested negative for hsv2 positive for hsv1. At 10.5 weeks I tested again and same results then same thing again at 13 weeks.
My symptoms are tingling all over. Sharp occasional pains in the genital area, and recent a crawling sensation in the vaginal area.

1.Does this sound like anything you've experienced over the years?

2. In your opinion do u think I have hsv2?

I've done all other std test, seen 6 different doctors and they all said they I don't have it.

Hi, Shan09876--So sorry you're going through those symptoms. I don't have symptoms like those, but an OB/GYN would be able to perform a wider variety of tests to pinpoint what is going on. I hope you find a resolution soon.

How often do you get ob? Did it get any easier?

Hi, Shan09876--When I first contracted, I got about three outbreaks per year and extremely painful with several sores. Now, I might get one outbreak per year, with only one sore (still very painful). I also feel as if I am catching the flu for about one day. But, overall, better.
