Borderline hsv 2 while husband is negative??

Hi i recently did some blood test as i am pregnant. I am positive for hsv 1 which i believe i contracted as a child. But to my surprise i have tested borderlinw for hsv 2 with igg at 15.32 and igm .26 my husband tested negative. Tje doctor says that this is a recent exposure. But i have only had sex with my husband for the last 4 years. How is this possible?

I just want to jump in here quick... your doctor can NOT possibly tell whether your test results is due to a recent infection based on the information you supplied. I'm not sure what type of IgG test he used, and if it is true that it's right on the border of being positive, then it could very well be a false positive due to cross reactivity. Your doctor can not just say you are positive and leave it at that. Your results if truly borderline, need confirmatory testing and clarity.

Ok so u think i should repeat the teatvas well?
I don't know where you live, but if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't mess around taking any other tests and would get the Western Blot test performed. You can google it. It's performed at the University of Washington.

I would just repeat it now using one of the other igg type specific test.

Hmm that’s a strange igg test. I would suggest testing again using a online std check site. One that uses Labcorp or quest. If that’s positive possiblly consider the western blot, but at the same time your husband is negative and you most likely have a protein in your body that trips up the igg  herpes test. I have a a strong feeling your negative.

How long should i wait
To repeat the test
Was this test conducted in Europe? An IgG index value that high isn’t “borderline”, that’s a firm positive. I can’t help but wonder what test was done because a Captiva or HerpesSelect test are common IgG tests in the US. Please confirm the test and if this was performed in Europe because I understand their testing scale is different.

What was the positive test value to be considered positive. 15.32 seems positive. Usually it’s 1 to 3.5 is a possible false positive, but your doctor could be using a different type of igg test.
