most likely your current partner.
he can seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test to know his status but he'll need to seek it out at a private clinic and pay for it. it's not done at gum clinics from what I understand from prior posters.
Thanks for the response Grace!
I have a casual partner I'm currently seeing. I had oral and penetrative sex with him for the first time a month ago. 2 days before my first outbreak we also had both oral and penetrative sex - is it likely then that he passed on his hsv 1 to me during oral? Or could it be possible that the partner i had slept with 6 months prior to him could have passed it on and i only just had an outbreak now?
hsv1 genitally is the most common cause of genital herpes in the UK. It's also very common orally there too. typically it's transmitted from oral to genital contact.
hsv1 genitally reoccurs less often than hsv2 as well as sheds much less too.
unless you get an obvious cold sore, no way to know if you also contracted hsv1 orally or not too. From what few studies we have, anywhere from 1/4 - 2/3's of folks who contract hsv1 genitally also have it orally.
keep asking questions!!
I am now able to finally pee and the vaginal swelling has completely gone! Although my skin is still raw and pink and is very sensitive and i still have spot scarring where i had the outbreak.
I received my results today from the herpes swab and it came back positive for hsv simplex 1. Is it quite uncommon to have hsv 1 in the genital area? Does this mean that i only could have caught hsv 1 from a partner who had hsv 1 on their mouth and passed it on when they performed oral? Or could it be possible that they also had hsv 1 on their genitals and passed it on through intercourse?
Is hsv 1 usually less severe than 2 or is this just a myth? And does hsv 1 on my genitals mean that i will also have it on my mouth?
Sorry i have so many questions i just need some guidance! Thank you :)
most likely it was a waste of time being swabbed at this appointment :( you had had symptoms for too long as well as already were on herpes antivirals. do you have a regular partner?
make sure since you are having problems peeing that you have a refill on your acyclovir. If you aren't peeing freely by the time you've finished your 7-10 day course of acyclovir, you need to take another 10 days.
you might also want to pick up a can of dermoplast spray ( the blue can for the genital area, not the red can ). it's usually under $10 at most drug stores. you can spray it on the genital area several times a day for pain relief. also alternate tylenol and advil too - i.e tylenol 1000mg at 6 a.m., advil 600mg at 9 am, tylenol at noon, advil at 3 pm etc. it gives you better pain relief than just taking one or the other.
you can also pick up a sitz bath set up. it fits in the toilet and you can soak your bottom in it to pee into instead of getting fully naked to pee in the shower too.
I went to see a gyno today who confirmed it is an initial outbreak of herpes. This is devastating as I had convinced myself it was just a really bad yeast infection. Nevertheless I'm trying to move past it and deal with what it is now. I'm only able to pee in the shower at this moment and am still off work as the gyno advised I should stay off for the rest of the week as I work in an office 9-5pm so there really is no option other than not to pee for the entire day!
I'm on aciclovir 5x a day for 5 days, tomorrow will be the 5th day and the pain of the sores itself is bearable, it's just the pain when I need to pee that is difficult to cope with.
I was swabbed for herpes today aswell as gonorrhea and chlamydia so let's see what the other tests say, fingers crossed the other tests come back negative because don't think i can handle another std right now! The swelling is still present but only today is starting to lessen slightly, hopefully I can return to work by next week Monday!
Was your first outbreak this painful? And are they less painful each time?
what testing did they do when you were seen?
did they test the lesions for herpes?
did they test your discharge for trich, chlamydia, gonorrhea, yeast and bv?
what medication and dose were you given for the potential herpes part of this?

After reading a couple of other threads, I jumped into the shower and was able to pee with the warm water over the cuts - finally! I still need to pee more but could only do it a little!
I would seek medical attention, especially if you go longer without peeing and have been drinking fluids. I am no dr, but I know things do go south
