If you have type 1 and perform oral sex on someone, and they get genital herpes, they would have genital herpes type 1. The number indicates the strain of the virus, not the location.
Make sure that the person has been given a type specific IgG blood test. Often, people get combo tests, which give results like, "IgG hsv1&2" with either a positive or a number after it. All this means is that they found antibodies for type 1 OR type 2 OR both. Doctors often don't know this, and say that they have tested positive for both, which may or may not be true. If she's had a type specific test, it will say, "IgG hsv 1" with a result, and "IgG hsv2" with a result, and those results will likely be different.
Hope this helps!
