Can HSV2 be spread by sharing food?

I may have contracted HSV2 a few years ago but my blood tests are still coming back negative. I have rashes but no sores. My partner caught the flu shortly after we started dating and someone else I know got sick after we shared some food. Could I have infected both of them?

Hi Grace! Thanks so much for your feedback. It's been a rough 5 months, affecting my relationship and my sanity. I don't think I'll feel 100% convinced until my boyfriend gets tested. But I will definitely look into the dermatological condition you referred to. I do hope you're right and that I don't have HSV. I would hate to think that I've indirectly passed on that illness to anyone I care about. Thanks again for your advice!

There are many things that can cause these sorts of symptoms in females. I know it's a pain but keep going to be seen by a gyn every month as needed for symptoms. Have they tried topical estrogen cream in your genital area? Being on the pill, even when young, can cause you to stop producing enough estrogen in the genital skin which causes dryness , burning and ulceration/tearing. Make sure you use a plain soap like white, unscented dove on your genital area ( best to use no soap at all ) and make sure you aren't using anything scented in the genital area. You can try using a barrier cream like aquaphor or desitin on your genitals for now to help soothe and protect your irritated skin.I think if you google atrophic vaginitis you will find that your symptoms match up quite a bit with it and many gyn's forget that it can affect young women, not just post menopausal women.

Canker sores are not std related. They are not contagious. They are thought to  have a genetic component. You will not transmit them from sharing food with anyone. Flu like viral illnesses are very contagious and can be transmitted from touching surfaces, sharing food and drinks, as well as by just breathing within 3 feet of another person.

You have no reason to think you have herpes. Your symptoms do not really sound herpetic and you test consistently negative for herpes. Though indeed the herpes igg blood tests are not 100% accurate, having had multiple negative blood tests for herpes means it's not likely that herpes is the cause of your symptoms.

Thanks again for your insight. It's definitely not a fungus. I've tried antifungals. Many of my symptoms match what's on the NIH and CDC websites for HSV2. Shooting nerve pain in the leg is a common prodomal symptom. And it was definitely not related to a muscle injury. I've read that the igg tests are not 100% accurate as well. And I think people have different reactions to HSV infection. Some have no symptoms, some get blisters, some get rashes. I seem to get very tiny cuts and pimples. Anyway, my initial question was "can HSV be spread by sharing food"? A friend of mine dipped into my food when I had a canker sore type thing inside my mouth and then they got sick with the flu. Just want to know if it's possible.

Did you have the PCR test? Fungas does not cause a sore throat but germs could and buring leg pains is a sign of a pulled muscle. Fungas doesnot cause burning leg pains.

Thanks again. I had the rashes swabbed but nothing showed up. I tested negative for candida too. I am not sure that a fungus could cause sore throat, and shooting, burning leg pains. Herpes just seemed like the best fit to me but again, a negative igg. What types of fungus could cause these symptoms?

I know your suffering, i am mentioning that you are foceing on herpes as the problem. Have the rashes swabbed and a PCR test performed to determine whats causing these rashes. Genital rashes are often fungal related.

Thanks for your feedback. I have been suffering from very painful vaginal rashes and lots of other symptoms for 5 months and so far the only thing that has eased my pain is Acyclivor. So it seems like I could have a herpes virus. I know it sounds kinda crazy but I'm really suffering. Definitely not in my head.

Hi, since youve tested negative for hsv1 and hsv2, you did not spread it to anyone. Tests are conclusive NOT symptoms. And all of what you mention are not suggestive of herpes at all. You also talk about herpes (spreading from person to person) like its a higly contagious disease! Its not. Genital hsv 2 is only spread by naked genital rubbing and if there are no sores at the time, the risk for spreading it from an infected person is close to zero.
Not sure what more we can say here to help you but going to have continuous igg tests is not the answer. You have HSV anxiety and that init self is also an infliction. If you cant deal with this then maybe seek some counceling.
