You need to read above and you will see VISUAL DIAGNOSIS ONLY then I said he needed to get it checked out by someone who knows herpes BECAUSE the number one cause of genital ulceration is HERPES and for this guy to just say no who is NOT an STD Specialist is ridiculous!!!!! Then you said this guy is capable of taking a swab and doing a blood test but that was NOT offfered to this guy then you agreed and then I agreed with you that he CAN do a swab and lab test but OBVIOUSLY this was NOT offered which means this Dr. believes he is NOT looking at herpes and Dr. Hansfield has said time and time again, even professional Dr's. who knows herpes get it wrong sometimes!! So what do you think, this guy should refrain from doing something or tell the Dr. he doesn't believe his visual diagnosis and gets a test done? I bet you when this guy goes back to this Internist at this well known hospital and tells the Dr. that a bunch of people from the Internet told him to get this test done iregardless what his visual diagnoses are, he won't take to kindly to it!! We have seen herpes misdiagnosed a million times on here by STD professionals nontheless an Internist. I think if he was a good Internist after seeing an ulceration on this guys testicles he would have automatically went for a swab or blood test with followup but he didn't do this. Read above about his VISUAL diagnosis being the ONLY thing. It's late and I believe you might have missed it :)
Where did you get the impression he's "done with this guy based on a visual diagnosis?" All the OP said was that it was an internist at a hospital. Got reading comprehension? There was also no mention of the doctor being arrogant or dismissive ("with an ego like that"). But at least you're not going overboard with the exclamation marks tonight. Yeesh.
Sorry, but from start to finish, he can continue to use the same doc, since it's only a matter of a step-wise process. You get a visual saying herpes. You request for, or they order up on their own, a culture, if it's possible to culture the lesion. You order up a blood test.
You go from there. Christ on a cracker, it's not rocket science. No "experts" needed at this point. Exclamation point.
Of course an internist can do a swab and order a blood test but it sounds like he is done with this guy based on a visual diagnosis. Not sure I would trust someone with an ego like that and a blood test contradicting what he THOUGHT he knew.. When it comes to STD's, you really need someone who understands it.
An internist is perfectly capable of taking a swab and ordering a lab test. I agree this thing, whatever it is you have, requires further examination beyond just a visual diagnosis.
I'd get the test where they take a swab and culture it to know for sure. Can't hurt, and it may be a dangerous bacterial infection like MRSA or whatever and you'll need to know that for sure and soon or you could lose your leg, or more.
If he isn't an STD expert nor a dermatologist or Urologist, go get it looked at by one of the three I have mentioned and get an IGG Test done. I wouldn't go on the world of an internist over an expert.
No, he's an internal medicine guy at a very well known hospital.
A primary outbreak would not have produced a prodrome (Tingling) before forming. The location of it isn't typical of herpes either. If you went to your family Dr., blow off what he has said and go see either an STD Dr. or a Dermatologist. I am not saying it's not herpes but I definitely would go have it checked by someone who knows herpes before believing a family Dr. if that's who you used.
It's an ulcer that hurts like hell. There is another next to it on my thigh that looks very similar. It was a visual check only, but it was very painful when developing and I had tingling before it developed.
If he confirmed it this fast it had to be visual in which case I am very skeptical.... What does this lesion look like?
Did he confirm it with a visual diagnosis only? Visual diagnoses of herpes are wrong about 70% of the time.
Aj
Doc confirmed herpes today.
Explain this lesion... Herpes usually do not happen on th testicle but it is possible. Just not the most common a place to get it. Just curious what this lesion looks like. I suppose if one single herpes bug lived in you it would be called a herpe but trust me when I say there are either none or billions but never just one :).
It might be a herpes sore, but it might not be. You really do need to get it checked.
AJ
There is no such thing as a "herpe."
