Can Parent transmit Hsv to child?

My aunt has Hsv 1 (orally) she gets outbreaks often. She has had Hsv 1 since she was a teen. When she gets an outbreak it gets on the side of her face or on her lips. She has a younger child that is 6. I was at her house and I saw her bathing with the 6 yr old and washing the 6 yrs olds private parts with her hand. This child also likes to ya and touch the moms face and poke the sores. How likely is it for the child to contract hsv in the genitals?

When children get hsv1 oral its from rubbing kissing as the virus has to be forced into the nerve so even direct contact needs a push. What your describing is really not possible at all and the simple fact that if it was we would have millions of children here in the U.S. with genital herpes and we dont. Its estimated at 70% of the adult population would test positive for hsv1 oral and of those that have children, if what your asking was possible, it would be on the level of a plaque!!! How many children do you know have genital herpes? None.

I'm still concerned that there were visible sores and what if she touched her face and then touched the child private area?

Hi, hsv is contracted by direct contact not by hand passing.

There still isn't a risk with passing it to the genitals I don't think.
It's still not a good idea to touch active sores.

She did have visible sores on her cheeks at the time she was bathing my cousin.

There is no risk of passing HSV-1 to the genitals from what you describe. HSV-1 is only commonly transferred from parent to child orally by kissing when a cold sore is present.
