Can a male have herpes and "not know"

ok i am very very confused. i took a herpes test and the results came out positive. I has never shown any signs or symptoms of the STD. Now my question is. Is it possible by any way that the guy that i contracted the disease from dindnt know he had it?

I know it is real hard for females to be aware that they have an STD because it can be confused with other things, but when it comes to a guy. Is there any way that a male can have genital herpes and not be aware of it. I think that the answer is No but i am unsure because i cant accept how a guy that has Herpes would still sleep around without any protection. I mean i know people do some crazy things but i guess i just still cant accept that i contracted a disease from someone "purposely".... please help .

i know that the results are already in and thats something we cant change but i dont know the curiosity is bothering me. ok i am very very confused. i took a herpes test and the results came out positive. the herpes blood testing you listed doesn't appear to be  the right kind. it appears to be a non-type specific test done.

blood test results can be positive in as little as 2-3 weeks. we recommend waiting 3-4 months because then the vast majority of people infected test accurately.

if you call and ask for all your test results for you both and post them here, I can probably help you better - e.g. hsv1 igg 5.98 and hsv2 igg 2.3 or whatever they are.

did your partner have  lesion culture of active symptoms or just blood testing?

grace i have one last question. My current partner had his "initial breakout" first week of january 2011 we finally went to get the actual test that said positive March9th 2011. Is the timing right to get the results?

because now im thinking and weren't his results suppose to have come back negative until at least 20 weeks?

or am i overanalyzing?

Hello, sorry about the copy paste.
Well basically, here is how it started about a year and a few months back I was with someone whom apparently I have contracted genital herpes from.  I never knew I had herpes hsv II until my current partner started showing some signs and symptoms. This whole yeah I have gone to the gynecologist about 3 times. The first time was for a regular routine. Paps, etc.  i went because I was feeling a little discomfort. Itch, smell, etc. when the Dr. went  in with the camera my cervix looked what it appeared to be “swollen”, red. The doctor did a biopsy to make sure they were not any cancerous cells. The Dr. did and elctro surgery to remove all that swollen tissue around my cervix. I had never seen anything like it. The biopsy results came in, everything fine.  She told me to come back in about 2months to see what it looked like. The next time I came it had reduced a lot but it was still there. It was like a ring around my cervix. This time smaller. She touched up doing a minor elctrosurgery.  The dr. told me I had nothing to worry about that usually happened when you have “rough sex”. Which I found completely strange.
I have never showed anything else.  a few months ago my current partner showed some signs and symptoms of herpes on the  tip of his penis and on the shaft. We decided to do a herpes test which can back  positive.  The test reads as follows:

HERPES I & II IgG ----------->. POSITIVE
We have decided to move past that and keep on with our lives but I always many questions running my head. I feel like the guy that I was with about a year ago (the first guy I mentioned) knew he had hsv II because wouldn’t he have to have also showed symptoms like my partner did?
-Is it possible for the first guy not to have known he had de virus?
I have never confronted him about it in fear that he might just  1 deny it or 2 say he had NO IDEA.
Also ever since all this broke out I have not any signs or symptoms, I know is hard to tell because is not like hsv I that is oral and visible. Basically my sex live with my current partner is not the same. Should I fear anything now that we both have genital herpes?
- Are we not suppose to have any type of oral sex?
- Is it possible that through shredding we get hsv I if we have oral sex?
I fear so much now that we both have it, I mean my current partner says he wants our sex live to be back to normal , but would it ever be back to normal if we both have genital herpes?
Also neither of us are taking any medications for it. Should we BOTH start taking? Or only if there is and outbreak.
I know grace you mentioned you have had hsv II for 20+ years in one of your forums. What precautions have you taken? And do you take daily medication, or only if you have an outbreak?
In regards to the first guy I have no idea if he has ever been tested. I don’t really keep in touch with him.
After what happened I had the “idea” that he knew he had the virus yet insisted in having sexual intercourse with my without protection. I don’t know all this can get really confusing at times and many questions cross my mind. Good thing we have this website. Thank you

Ps. Sorry so long.

I think you cut and pasted a few too many times.

What testing did you have done that came back as +?

can a partner have herpes and not know it? well of course, in fact studies show that over 90% of folks who have hsv2 have no idea they have it until tested.    have you talked to your partner? have they been tested yet?
