Can sore throat be an only symptom?
Five days ago I had kissed (passionately) a friend who is known to have a history of cold sores. At the time I did not notice a cold sore and I seen her 3 days afterwards and she still had no visible sore. The thing is, its five days later and I have a horrible sore throat. There are some white spots on tonsils but can be wiped off with a Q-tip. Other than the sore throat, I have no symptoms. I have a few questions.
1) First, what are the odds of catching a cold sore when she did not have one present at the time? I know there can be asymptomatic shedding but still what is the likelihood?
2) Can a sore throat be the only symptom?
3) If this throat infection were indeed herpes, would I be able to wipe the spots away with a Q-tip?
Please help. Very worried. Thank you in advance.

this doesn't sound like oral herpes. have you seen your provider for testing for strep throat?

Thanks Grace! No I haven't been tested yet but dont I have to wait 3 months now?? TOday my sore throat has greatly improved. Still have a few swollen lymph nodes. If it were orall herpes, would the spots just wipe away that easily? Also, is a sore throat associated with herpes caused by the ulcers? Because there are no ulcers at all. Would the ulcers present with the sore throat. Thank you so much for your response. Its very comforting.
even if you can't recall ever having had obvious cold sores, you could still have hsv1 which is why I asked about testing.

So today (day 9 after exposure) i had a small white head looking pimple on my lip. I popped it and it is painless. Could this be a herpes sore? its still a little red but looks like its improving.
also I am having no other symptoms (swollen glands are away, no sore throat anymore or fever)
