No outbreaks?

I was diagnosed 3+yrs ago with hsv 2 but I wasn't having an outbreak nor have I had any since. What r the odds of that? And I've been with 4 people since and they r all still clean

You will need to check back with your gyn about what testing was done. When herpes is possibly detected during a pap test, it doesn't usually type it. So if your provider was assuming that a regular pap that was suggested with cellular changes consistent with herpes meant hsv2, they were wrong.

When a pap test detects cellular changes consistent with herpes, it does so in an inaccurate way which is why follow up testing is needed to confirm the diagnosis. If you are consistently testing negative, not likely you have hsv2 but if you really need peace of mind, I suggest seeking out a herpes western blot blood test for a final answer.

This seems odd. I would have a confirmaratory blood test done just to be sure. I'm not saying your doctor is wrong. Just wouldn't hurt to check.

I have the med records.. it specifically says a pap was preformed and the patient has no sores or abnormalities but shows positive for hsv2.. the hsv2 test was done while I was testing for hpv in the patient.

There is no real reason why they'd test a pap swab for HSV. This seems a bit strange to me. HSV2 blood testing is very accurate hence there is a good chance you do not have HSV2.

I think there could be an error or contamination going on here. I would check exactly what test was performed to show HSV2!

It was a swab preformed during a pap.. she did a couple swabs like they always did on me said everything looked normal on the outside not sore or abnormalities and u will have the results in a week.. a week went by no results.. few months went by no results in the mail or phone so I called back and the receptionist looked up my file and said all it said is patient is positive for hsv2 preformed during a routine pap

Then you do not have HSV2.

What test diagnosed you years ago? Was it IgM, IgG and what were the results?
