Concerned

I have had only two partners before. I am a lesbian so I have only had oral sex. Two months after unprotected oral sex with a girl once I had this burning sensation on my perineum, anus and vulva. I went to the doctor who said he saw nothing but irritation on my vulva. He said he was 99% sure this was not herpes because no visible sores and no swollen glands fever etc. He couldn't do any swab because I started my period a few days after i made the appointment but he said it sounded like yeast.  He prescribed me 1 dose of diflucan and the symptoms went away after about 7 days of taking the pill even though people say you should feel relief in two to three days. The symptoms all together lasted three weeks. A month later right before my period again Same symptoms in the same areas maybe just a bit milder. I tried using monistat 7 which took my symptoms away for two days. Once again I went to my doctor and he could do a swab this time because I was not on my period yet. The culture came back positive for bacteria and I have been taking antibiotics for it. This friday will mark once again three weeks of these symptoms. I am just a bit concerned though because if it is bacteria yeast or whatever why would it reoccur like this. And my symptoms do not match up with those that usually occur with a bacterial infection. This sounds to me more like herpes. I would like your opinion. Is it common to have symptoms of herpes without the actual sores especially for three weeks?

you have no reason at this point to think you have hsv1 genitally. I'd get to know your status so you and future partners can make educated decisions about what precautions to take together for sexual contact.  if you don't have hsv1 already, you can contract it later on genitally .

If I do get these blood tests. They wouldn't tell me if I had hsv 1 orally or genitally correct? And you suggest I do this just in case I don't have it now but do contract it later?

glad you had your shots!

you should consider seeking out hsv1 igg blood testing at some point to know your status.  you know you don't have hsv2 and I wouldn't assume that just because a lot of other family members have hsv1 that you do too.

I'm ashamed to say that I have not used protection. I also have not been tested to know my hsv 1 status. I'm almost positive I would have been exposed to it though as a child as all my siblings have had and do get cold sores as well as my mother. I am also aware that my partners can get hsv 2. Would the symptoms of bv be like this irritation on my vulva and around my anus?

odds are you had the bv the first time  you were seen but since your provider chose not to test due to your period, they misdiagnosed you :(

not unusual at all for bv to come back and/or linger like this. treat it and it should get better in a week.

bv is also pretty common from receiving oral sex.  do you have protected oral sex to protect yourself better ?

have you ever been tested for hsv1 to know your status?  also be aware that your partners can have hsv2 genitally too - many lesbians first start out with male partners.
