Could it be Herpes

So I have been seeing a new guy for about two months now. Two weeks ago we engaged in a lot of heavy kissing and oral sex (I was the receiver) and about a week ago we engaged in kissing, oral sex (I was the receiver) and protected vaginal sex. After about a day or so I started having occassional itching on my anus but if I touch there is no pain, itching, sore spots or bumps. Yesterday, I felt an extremely painful bump on the lipline of my lower lip (mouth) and found a tiny paper cut looking pimple. I had an appointment already scheduled with my doctor so I asked him about it but he didnt think it was a cold sore. He seemed surprised that I'd never gotten a cold sore but refused to give me meds or send me for tests. He advised me to get abreva just in case it was a cold sore and left it at that. The bump had kind of gone down and was not as painful by the time I got the abreva but I have been applying it and maybe its working?? If this is Herpes, should I expect to see vaginal sores as well all over my body since he kissed me everywhere? Can doctors refuse to give a test?

Hi also, prodome is more for those already diagnosed with hpv as is a signal that an outbreak may occur. Its possible that youve had hsv1 a long time from childhood and only now are having an out break. I would see another doctor and have the herpes select type specific. Both the Elsa and immunoblot offer it where the type, meaning hsv1 or 2 is involved or you can have the Western blot done which is very accurate. Other option would be to swab a new sore from your lip and have it cultered with 48 hours after it appears.
If you dont know the status of your partner and having unusual symptoms, maybe best to test.

Itching all over doesn't sound like a symptom of the virus activating.

I'm a bit mystified by your doctor's behavior. You've already had sores - in fact you've already been prescribed the antivirals. You have the right to a blood test to determine your STD status. The swab is an entirely different test than the blood, and he should know that. You have the right to control your own health decisions. If your doctor still refuses, fire him. Find someone else who will give you the respect your deserve.

Thanks for your response. I think she gave me Valtrex coz of the constant sores in my mouth and tiny pimples on my lips (mouth).

I broke up with the guy in October due to many things among them the inability to give me a straight answer on his STD status. He had initially told me he gets tested regularly then he let it slip that he hadn't in years. From there on it was never clear and he was taking his sweet time getting to a doctor to do it.

I haven't gotten a blood test as my doctors office can only order one if they also have a sore to swab. I don't have the finances right now to go to a testing place to do it myself at the moment. I just figured since the valtrex and abreva cleared the tiny pimples and stopped the sore from popping up then I must have the H.

Apart from the sores in my mouth that I don't touch, I don't have any lesions anywhere else just the pimples on my shoulder and occasional ones on my torso legs and butt. I'm not sure if the itch I feel all over means I'm shedding or something.

Did you ever get tested for HSV? Why did the doctor prescribe you Valtrex before determining that you have the virus? The dosage he gave you is indeed somewhat pointless. I'm unclear about his reasoning.

Your yellow-headed pimple does not sound like herpes at all. I'm fairly sure you'd feel something there - itchiness or pain - if it were herpes.

In about a month or so, around Christmastime, it will have been 4 months since your sexual encounters. If your body is generating antibodies because you have virus in your system, there should be enough to trigger a positive result by then. You'll want to get a reliable blood test for HSV - either a type-specific IgG (good) or the Western Blot (better).

Yes, you can autoinoculate within the first 4 months or so, before the antibodies have generated. Wash your hands with soap and water after touching a lesion. Soap and water kills the virus instantly.

Your hot sensations are likely unrelated to herpes, as are your shoulder symptoms, unless you think you had a portal (cut, wound, tear) there, and it came in contact with a shedding area on his skin. I do not think your sore throat and outbreak are from herpes - usually symptoms present inside the mouth only during the first infection. However, if you have new ones show up, go and get them swabbed before 48 hours are up, so you don't risk a false negative.

Valtrex will not trigger an outbreak.

By the way, has your guy been tested?

Update!
After months and months of dry lips and mouth sores and many questions, I finally got to see a doctor who prescribed diflucan for yeast and Valtrex. The dosage is 2 pills twice a day for one day. Everyone on meds seems to be taking them for much longer as far as I've read online. Has anyone else received a similar dosage?

I felt what I imagine was a prodome on my lip yesterday and I also had the tiny pimples that have been present for months in the inner side of my lip & same corner. Both the prodome tingling/throbbing and the tiny pimples are gone so I am taking it as confirmation that what I have is herpes since it reacted well to the valtrex and abreva.

Questions:
Can I self inoculate? I am worried about transferring especially it to my eyes or genitals since I don't have symptoms down there yet.

I have been having hot sensations in the same spots on my arm, shoulder, ankle, buttock for a while. Is this a symptom of herpes?

I also have a cluster of pimples (not blisters) that popped up on my shoulder sometime today ... I have been getting pimples in the same area but assumed it was acne. Is this a symptom.

Would the valtrex trigger an outbreak? I had a sore throat with white stuff on my tonsils during what I think was my initial outbreak  months ago and both sore throat and the white coating are back.

I know the post is long but thanks for reading and responding!

Today I found a yellow headed pimple in my groin area (outer lips). I had been more focused in checking the inner areas since that's where I thought I'd see sores etc so I am not sure how long it has been there. It is not painful to touch and does not itch. I get ingrown hairs although I dont shave but this doesn't look like one of those.

He said it was not proper use of medical resources since I didnt have any sores or what he would term a sore. What does a prodome(sp) feel like. I didnt tingle or anything but that bump was really really painful like I had cut or burnt myself.

I don't think that based on what you describe that there is any particular concern surrounding herpes.

I would hope a doctor wouldn't refuse you and your boyfriend seeking an STD panel test explicitly including HSV before you embark upon an unprotected relationship. If for some reason the refusal continues; then I would think it time for a new doctor.
