Could my boyfriend have given me herpes?

Over the past couple of months, I have grown closer to a friend with the type 1 herpes virus. He had his first outbreak earlier this year and has had no visibal recurrance since.

We haven't had sex, as I'm too wary of the dangers. He has given me oral sex, however, and there has been sexual contact in the form of out genitals touching etc.

I'm so anxious about what we can do to prevent it, and how far we can go. I don't know if I'm being unnecessarily concerned, but I'm worried I could have already contracted it, even though sexual contact has been minimal.

Please help me; I feel like I'm just waiting for an outbreak to happen!

I have no idea; he said he has type one genital herpes, but I don't know how he was diagnosed!  I'm worried I've got it already, how possible is that?

But how was he diagnosed? Blood test or swab/culture of symptoms? Oral or genital?

I don't know if this is relevant, but I've never had a coldsore, so assume my status is negative.

He basically noticed a flare-up after having unprotected sex, and was diagnosed shortly after.

I have had a general STI test before, which came back as negative, but I don't know if this necessarily covers my herpes status.

Do you think I could have already caught it?

How was your friend diagnosed as having genital HSV1?

Have you ever been tested to know your own herpes status?
