Does My Gf Have Herpes

Hi
My GF got tested for herpes the other day. The tests done were HSV1+2, IGAb serum by CLIA and Western Blot, IGm. The WB IGm came out as negative but the non type-specific IGAb came out as positive with a value of 1.66. Now in her city (Kolkata, India), there are no labs that does type-specific HSV IGG testing. Both of us are distraught and want to know whether she really has herpes or is it a false positive. She will get retested again in a few weeks but i dont know how reliable or accurate that will be coz that test will also be non type-specific. She has consulted a couple of doctors both with contradictory opinions. One even said that herpes is curable!

So my question is whether there is a good chance that she has tested false positive and can anybody shed some light on the labs/hospitals that can do type-specific testing in Kolkata, India?

Both of us have never had any symptoms of an outbreak but she has had fungal infections a couple of times in the past few years and I have had a jock itch/thrush only once in my entire life. I got tested for STDs around 9 months back and all tests came out negative. We have had unprotected sex only once and that too for a few mins as we got scared and I put on a condom. I am her second partner and she is my fourth.

Thanks

no actually i also got tested with the non type-specific test and came negative for both IGG and IGM. I know I am clutching at straws here and thats mainly bcoz there are no labs in India that does the type-specific tests. I feel that my gf got a false positive. what do u feel abt that?

it appears she had a non-type specific test that came back as 1.66. non-type specific testing tells you nothing.  she should seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test

did you get tested properly for herpes when you had your testing done?

hi grace

in the report its mentioned WB for iGM and the result as non-reactive. But in the HSV1+2 IGG CLIA test the result is mentioned as 1.66 and reactive. I will be grateful if you can shed some light on what can be the possibility of the CLIA test being false positive?

I really can't help you with testing in your country. I recommend looking to find a local herpes group who has someone like me who is trained in the herpes testing offered locally to help you.

I also don't think it was a western blot igm done either - the WB never returns with numeric results.
