Does herpes disqualify you from Military service, and do they test for it at MEPS.

I was told, based on a culture, that I had herpes.  I entially took the prescribed medication, acyclovir, for the first out break.  The second outbreak was practically nothing and painless. I've been doing just fine managing without any medication, and breakouts have been infrequent, with standard symptoms at times(swollen glands, slight itching).  I've been thinking about joining the military prior to getting herpes, and I am concerned that I would be disqualified for service, dispite still being able to funtion normally.  I was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to enlist with herpes.  I have not had any blood work done to confirm this, but I know they will probably ask and I must be truthful.  Do they test for herpes, and all STD's at military processing?  Is there any way to avoid disclosure, and if necessary get a waiver?

Hi!! I'm currently in the national guard. I just found out that I tested positive for HVS-2, HVS1. I'm having a hard time dealing with this. My fiancé found out she had it as well. She is 7 months pg with our child. We are worried about newborn getting it, but doctors told us that we should not worry about it. What make things worst is not trying to stress out as much, because it can trigger an outbreak. I told my sgt and Commander about it.
They said that they can get me general discharge from the National Guard.
I really want to get out, because it seems like everybody at my unit looks at me different now, and I just transfer to this unit about 8 months ago. I'm in a city where me and my fiancé don't have any support or family and we are struggling bills. I told my Sfc that I wanted to transfer, but he said since I only been with the unit for 8 months. I cant transfer back home. I just want to be around family, so they can help out with the kids while me and my fiancé finish college.

I honestly don't know the answer to your question, but I doubt having Herpes would be reason to stop you joining the Military, however they may have ruling in place whereby not disclosing your full medical history may give cause for disiplinary action at a later date if they were to find out you had not been 100% honest, they may even test themselves during your physical,I am not clear on Military ruling at all where this is concerned.
It might be an idea to ring them up and ask if this would be an issue.
