Few questions..

I've posted on here before. I was recently diagnosed and when I was diagnosed I only have a small like sore which the doctor swabbed and came back positive. I was prescribed acycolcir and the small sore went away. A week or so after that I figured out I was having an outbreak and so I started taking the medicine and it didn't seen to help so I went in and she gave me Valtrex to take for 5 days and said  my vagina looked okay and that one of the blisters looked like it was healing . After the 5 days of taking it, it didn't seem like that helped either, still having pain and the itching is driving me crazy and  seemed like it was getting worse. I just looked down there and it looks I'm having another outbreak and it doesn't look too pretty down there. Any tips on what to do and how to control the itching?

the bv can irritate the skin and make it dry, itchy and look bumpy.  I'd wait another week or so and then return to get retested for vaginitis again if you are still very itchy. Meanwhile do something as simple as you can use dermoplast spray on the area for itching ( the blue can for the genital area, not the red can ) and use a barrier cream like desitin or aquaphor in between to help soothe and protect the sensitive genital skin.

Lysine has not been found to have any significant effect at all on genital herpes. It's one of the biggest herpes myths out there. If you look on Terri Warren's old herpes forum here and search for lysine, she has lots of info on it and its lack of effectiveness.

There are no long term effects of being on herpes antivirals. They are not antibiotics. They are very safe. We have info on their safety with people being on daily suppressive therapy for almost 30 years now.

Stick with the lysine it works, need at least 2 weeks of taking daily for it to take full effect but this is only thing that has worked for me, also I take a multivitamin daily too and try and avoid stress where possible. I don't take antibiotics anymore not good for you and can cause other problems mainly yeast infections for women, suppressive therapy works while your on it and then as soon as you finish your back to square one, all the best with whatever you choose

She did take a swab last week and looked under the microscope and gave me medicine to treat some BV. I think I am going to try yhe tea tree oil. She said for me to take the Valtrex an additional 4 days and if its not better to come in and we'll talk about the suppressive therapy. It's still not better and this morning I saw a few areas with small red looking bumps in a circle. So I think tomorrow I'm going to call and see about the suppressive therapy. I've been taking 1,000 mg of lysine .

Did they also test you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally when you were seen again? this sounds more like a vaginitis issue than it does a herpes issue as far as the itching.

I like to use tea tree oil (diluted) myself on lesions. I think it is helpful with the itching and pain. Most people do not get any significant help with reducing recurrences with anything other than the herpes antivirals.  Plenty of things to try to treat the pain and itching of recurrences though.

So what do you do now? Honestly I recommend that you go on daily suppressive therapy with either valtrex 500mg/day or acyclovir 400mg twice a day. You at this point will need to prevent recurrences since they are happening frequently. with having diabetes, your body already has issues and you can take your hsv2 out of the picture for the most part with daily suppressive therapy.

Thanks for the responses! Is there any recommendations to stop the itching? I've been reading about coconut oil, lemon balm salve and tea tree oil. Has anyone used those before?

Hi, forget about all these antibiotics, not good for you and expensive in the long run, you may be experiencing bad outbreaks at the minute because it's a vicious circle, an outbreak will give you stress and the stress therefore just makes it worse, I was diagnosed 7yrs ago and only recently have I found best way to control and so far eliminate my outbreaks, L-lysine 1000mg tablets, one a day for the foreseeable future, just like a multivitamin, best thing I ever found
