Also Terri the redness has been on the penis tip directly down the middle of my penis on the underside. If that makes any difference as well
Terri if you could let me clarify I few things maybe you can help a little more
Exposure was protected vaginal and unprotected oral sex with prostitute
-2 weeks later burning upon urination, frequency to do so also I had a fever and felt sick at this point.
- tested for gon and chlamydia both neg but took zithromax and doxy, no change
- on two occasions it burned to ejaculate and on random occasions i have had some discharge.
-saw a urologist about a month after encounter and he ran pcr tests for herpes which was obviously the wrong one bc I didn't have any lesions, so at 6 weeks post exposure I went back and got the igg blood tests for both, type 1 was pos, type 2 was neg, and igm was pos signaling new or recurrent infection ( I got a cold sore 6 days later) he gave me pyridium to help the burning urination, no change. During these weeks my symptoms were an intense burning at my Penile tip with redness which is more intense some days than others but docs said they weren't herpes lesions and couldn't swab them. I also suffer from off and on burning urination, changes in intensity of the burning penis tip with redness, sometimes it's there and other times it's not. Most recent intense burn was for 3 or 4 days in a row but not the entire day. Discharge on occasion and groin pains
-it is now almost 9 weeks post encounter and these symptoms have been really off and on for 7 weeks ( although I guess it could be two different outbreaks back to back)
- I am now taking hyophen and a topical steroid cream called thiamcinolone for the redness and burn on my penile tip. I've only used the cream for a couple days it burns at first then cools off, but still irritated
-again I have no real blistering lesions just redness and both doctors said this is normal and could just be irritation from all sorts of things. The problem is I've never had issues with my penis like this before the encounter.
- if that gives you any more info u might need to help that'd be great.
New herpes infection can cause a discharge, yes. Herpes can cause pain while urinating because urine is passing over open sores. However, other bacterial infections more commonly cause burning with urination. You have posted so many posts, I can't recall if you have been treated with antibiotics. As I have said before, the cream you are using would normally make herpes worse, not better.
I have no new thoughts on this issue since your last post. This is my final post on this thread.
Terri
Also about the discharge.. I've heard that herpes causes that and I've heard it doesn't cause that.
Terri,
Yes the igm test said it was greater than .91 and needed retest and my doc said its possible you have an acute infection or that the igm showed a recurrent outbreak but couldnt distinguish which type. No sores present nor have i had any of those. I have redness irritation and burning of my penile tip and it burns to pee sometimes.. Which are symptoms of herpes. But what is the context of burning urination? Is it bc the urine hits the sores or thats just an overall symptom? I have been using thiamcinolone steroid cream( not sure if its spelled correctly) and it seems to soothe the burn on my penis but i still feel it. The burning is really intense sometimes and not as intense at other times both during urination and my penis tip itself. I had gone to my doc yesterday bc the pain was really intense and i had him check my penis and he said ge didnt see any normal herpes lesions. Again this is about 6.5 weeks of basically consistent symptoms although they have been varying in pain. I realize herpes shouldnt be lingering but i honestly have no other ideas of what it could be. What thoughts can you give me? Thanks again
Cortisone would make herpes worse, if you had herpes and were applying this cream to it. Not better. Given the time frame with no blistering or sores, it is highly unlikely to be herpes.
When we see people in our clinic who become positive after 6 weeks, it is generally the case that they have taken antiviral medicine, though not every single time.
So your test was greater than .91? I'm really confused by your most recent post about your test results.
Terri
Hate to keep posting but I figure I should let u know I had some discharge today and honestly I believe that's been occurring over these weeks usually stringy type stuff after I go to pee but I've heard it's typical to have some semen in urine occasionally. Again sorry for all the posts just want to get a few professional answer with all details of my situation covered. Thanks again Terri
And also doc what he had said over the phone was that it was greater than or equal to .91 and it needed retest? If that makes your answer change at all. Also I notice it's irritated more after masterbation and the skin on the shaft and glans looks very dry. Again any further input would help me
Yes i definitely think herpes has taken over my life for the past few weeks. Its hard to get passed herpes bc of how long it takes for test results to be accurate. Im assuming youve rarely seen cases where the initial outbreak lasts 6 weeks with the various symptoms ive had.
How many times have you seen results as low as mine at 6 weeks, go up and become positive? I know i have hsv 1 and it may take a little longer to become hsv 2 positive but how much longer? It seems it i use vaseline or corrizone on the redness it gets better, but still uncomfortable. Ive seen in other posts u say 6 weeks is way too early to tell. Is that based on circumstances or what and the redness i have has not changed for a month now as in it hasnt blistered or scabbed. Highly unlikely it is herpes? Also people with hsv 1 get milder initial outbreak of hsv 2, but do sores present themselves and if it was a mild outbreak why would these symptoms persist for 6 weeks? Thanks again terri
My guess is that he is looking incorrectly at the IgM result - the chances that your test value is exactly the cutoff value seems unlikely though not impossible, I guess. Regardless, I do not believe the IgM test is useful at all.
No, I don't think the symptoms that you describe are consistent with herpes.
Also, I honestly think you are looking way too closely at your genitals. My advice would be to be happy for the negative IgG test at 6 weeks and try to focus on something else for the next several weeks until you test again, which I'm certain you are going to do.
As I looked back over the posts that you have done, there are so very many! Your herpes concerns are really taking control of your time, don't you think?
