What to do to relieve irritation from sores HSV2?

Hi all! I was recently diagnosed with HSV2 when I noticed some sores and went and got tested. Since then this is my first time experiencing an outbreak. There is no real pain or anything. But irritation from the sores rubbing against my underwear. I am on Valacyclovir. But I was wondering if anyone knew of any over the counter ointment, or any kind of home treatment to relieve the irritation. Thank you!

How were you diagnosed? Were the sores tested? Were you visually diagnosed?

There is a product called Dermoplast. It's a numbing spray. You can use that on your genitals, and it should help. Make sure you get the one with the blue cap, not the red one, as the red one has antibiotics in it that you don't need.  This is what it looks like - https://dermoplast.com/our-products/pain-itch-spray/ It's about $10-13, depending on where you get it, but my can has lasted a long time. I usually end up buying a new one because it's expired and not because I've run out.

You can get it at any drug store - Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens, etc. When you can, go without underwear and wear loose, comfortable shorts/pants.

You can also use it on bug bites, rashes, etc.

If you start getting a lot of pain, an ice pack also helps, though that's not always convenient.

Since you're new to herpes, you might want to read the Herpes Handbook, written by Terri Warren, one of the world's leading experts in the field. It's free, and you can read it here - https://westoverheights.com/herpes/the-updated-herpes-handbook/
