About 6 months ago I was infected with genital HSV by a man I had both oral sex and regular sex with (we always used a condom). I had an outbreak so I was tested by my doctor, who told me I had genital HSV1 (I am learning that contracting HSV1 is less common than HSV2 in the genital area).
My question is this: if the person I am sexually active with has been exposed to HSV1 already (but they get outbreaks only on their mouth, like cold sores), are they still at risk for contracting genital HSV1 by me? Or, will they only get them around their mouth, and not the genital area, because this was the first place they were exposed to HSV1?
