Genital HSV1

About 6 months ago I was infected with genital HSV by a man I had both oral sex and regular sex with (we always used a condom). I had an outbreak so I was tested by my doctor, who told me I had genital HSV1 (I am learning that contracting HSV1 is less common than HSV2 in the genital area).
My question is this: if the person I am sexually active with has been exposed to HSV1 already (but they get outbreaks only on their mouth, like cold sores), are they still at risk for contracting genital HSV1 by me? Or, will they only get them around their mouth, and not the genital area, because this was the first place they were exposed to HSV1?

I have had hsv 1 for 3 years now and only had two outbreaks, its been over a year since my second one. My outbreak was genital. A guy, kissed my clit for like 5seconds, another time he gave me two pecks on outer labia...can he get anything from that assuming he doesnt already have hsv1

did you have a lesion culture that came back as hsv1+?

hsv1 is typically transmitted to the genital area through oral sex. Your partner has a history of hsv1 orally and I assume your oral sex wasn't protected.  There doesn't have to be an actual cold sore present for the virus to have been shedding and transmitted to your genital area.

Your partner having hsv1 orally gives them significant protection against contracting hsv1 genitally but not 100%. Still err on the side of caution and when you have genital symptoms, avoid sex but otherwise it shouldn't be an issue.  hsv1 genitally on average doesn't reoccur very often either so disruptions  to your sex life should be minimal too.

keep asking questions as you have them :)
