Getting tested today...

I know I already have HSV1 (diagnosed as a child), but despite my P.A.'s reassurance that it "really doesn't matter which I have, as both are treated the same" I am going in for testing anyway. I just wanted to ask everyone... Am I correct in believing that it is the "IgG *TYPE SPECIFIC* antibody test that I need done? I don't want to BS around with other tests... I just want as clear cut an answer as medically possible.

once you and hubby both get tested and see who has what, you'll have a few better answers :)

easiest to add to your original post on your situation with any future questions so I don't have to keep going back and reviewing it - thanks!

I agree with you 100% Grace! This person is  the type who thinks once they've read about anything, that they know it all. Being that they are close to me though (and *normally* a good source of info and support), I wanted to get some sort of verification before I continue the conversation with them. I'm just trying to keep an all out war from happening. Thankfully, this person does not know my P.A.'s name. I think this person is just freaking out more than I am. Sadly, I do regret talking to this person about it.

On the note of feeling better, I feel 100% today. No tingling, itch or pain :) I'm happy that I chose to take the antivirals before testing - otherwise, I'd still be in utter misery waiting for an answer.

this did not affect your health.

it was not wrong to start you on antivirals without a + blood test or lesion culture.

no, your provider will not lose their license over this.

not sure who you were talking to but perhaps talking to them about this situation is not in your best interest since they don't seem very educated on it all :(

*** Long story short, I was just totally chewed out by someone for taking Valtrex before I was even tested for HSV2 (I know I have HSV1). This person has stated that my doctor (PA) should lose their license and that dispensing a antiviral without confirmation was unethical and so forth. I personally, am not complaining, but this person wants to start something horrible over this - claiming that my health is now compromised due to taking this medication before testing positive. I told them this this medication would NOT suppress my own immune system, but add to it (according to all the reading I've done tonight)... My question is this: Is there any truth to what I've told you this person has said? Again, I personally don't think there was any harm done - in fact, as I posted earlier, I'm almost 100% better since I began taking antivirals Monday night. I was already tested for everything else, and at the time, and the physical state I was in, I chose to accept the possibility AND responsibility without confirmation (at the time, I was tested today for my own personal satisfaction). In the beginning, I was given the highest and strongest doses for what was thought to be a combination of yeast (my first), BV (also my first), Thrush (again first), and the UTI that jumped on top of all those. The only thing left was an antiviral with the possibility of HSV2. Logically speaking... isn't it OBVIOUS that since taking the antiviral, and things have cleared up, that even the medical assumption/educated guess was correct? Regardless of type specific? I know, I know, this is crazy... I think I'm correct, I believe my PA to be correct and/or to be within their ethics/guidelines etc, but this other person is responding as if all heck has landed on Earth and that I'm going to die or something. Any comments/guidance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks Grace. Yes, I spoke to my PA for a long time today and we discussed my testing and fears, etc. I've actually calmed quite a lot (seriously this time :)) and was able to think logically and absorb information better. The nurse(?) that did my blood draw showed me the specific order on the blood test so that I would be assured that it was what I wanted. I don't recall the lab being used, but it is indeed for the IgG Type Specific Antibody test. I made sure to ask her if this would just show HSV or type as well. She has assured me (just to avoid any confusion) that I would know if I had 1 or 2, or both. She said I should hear from her by next Wednesday (the lab pick up already came today), but should I not, to definitely call her. It's amazing how just getting the test done has calmed my nerves.

On a bittersweet high note, I had been put on antivirals (Valtrex) Monday... I feel almost 100% as of this afternoon. Now it's just a waiting game till I get the results.

Thanks again :)

yes that is the testing you want done. labcorp and quest both use accurate testing if your provider uses either of them.

any further posts - just keep adding to your original post we already have going - thanks!
