HELP!!!

Okay so,

I had unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex two times in the last month, I am from the US where I have just recently (April 30) taken the western blot test for herpes and all was negative, never had any symptoms, just wanted a gold standard test.

Fast forward to last week and I started feeling some burning and discomfort around my vagina, about 6 days ago.
This continued for the last few days and I thought I may have gotten a yeast infection or maybe chlamydia or gono idk how

Last night I noticed a small paper cut looking thing on the inside of my labia minora, when I woke up today there were about 4 more. I am nearly certain this is herpes but just don't understand how it is possible I contracted it from this contact. I am going to the clinic today and I am terrified.

Any thoughts?

Great post. The problem is there is information taken out of context and sometimes plain false info. We all read into things we think pertain to us or a certain situation. The key is to educate yourselves on the actual virus itself and exactly how it is spread and things of that nature.
Put a nervous person in a room with the internet and soon his cold will turn into the plague. Lol
Canadiangirl good luck in the future and we are here if you need anything

Yes I totally agree.  Like I said your chances were nearly zero and your testing conferms this. Move on and enjoy life

I am betting you are negative. I fully understand your fears and concerns. I know the three weeks seems like a freaken lifetime but it will be here before you know it.
It really is good news that the Dr is very experienced in this and does not think this is hsv at all. I truely wish you the best and will await your negative results.
Rant anytime you need to.

Hello! Just got a call from the clinic saying that my swab came back negative and did not detect any HSV at all. I also went to a clinic where I am living in California that provides (very expensive lol) but worth it blood tests for HSV 2 that can detect the virus after about 7 days and is extremely sensitive, and that also came back negative (same test I took on April 30). I think I am going to stop testing now in terms of this exposure and just try to forget about all this and move on, as you said the chances I got HSV from this encounter is very low. I have completed two rounds of the best types of tests available and feel as though that is enough to rule it out for now. Do you agree?

I just returned from the clinic. I expressed all of my concerns very candidly and the doctor looked at me even more closely than last time and said she saw nothing, even when I tried to point out specific locations of concern. She has been a womens health doctor for like 25 years and sees herpes regularly, the student (whos 3rd day it was working at the clinic) said she had already seen multiple cases since the beginning of this week, and none looked anything like what she was looking at with me. This gave me a bit of comfort, but I cannot shake the worry. Due to these reasons they did not wish to do a swab as they were fairly confident it will come back negative, but she ended up doing one anyways because she saw how concerned and upset I was. We concluded it was probably best for my peace of mind.

She said the results take 2-3 weeks to come back!?! Gonna die waiting that long but I am just praying they are negative. Although it is unlikely that I have herpes due to the reality of my exposure ect... I just cannot find another realistic explanation for my symptoms and cannot shake the idea out of my head that I have genital HSV1. Again I wish I had not read anything online as I feel that is a lot of what has thrown me for a loop. I don't know why I wont listen to the doctors but I think that has a lot to do with it.

Sorry for the rant I am just freaking the hell out at the reality that I will know in 3 weeks whether or not my suspicions are correct, I really really hope I'm wrong about this.

Absolutely.  Getting them swabbed is the correct course of action. Don't be shy about what you want done. Have a pcr swab and have it type specific tested. Good luck and as always please keep me posted

Sorry to bug you again, but I woke up this morning in the same discomfort (sore, very dry, small tears in labia minora and one larger one) you can only see them clearly when the skin is stretched so I feel like maybe that is why the doctor missed them the first time, should I call the clinic today and go get it swabbed?

Thank you so much again.

I will try to stop worrying so much about this, and to continue on with my life until I can do the blood tests just to be extra sure.

Also I would recommend if anyone else stumbles on this post to try to stop reading so much online, even though a lot of it is first hand experiences each person is different and it is easy to become misinformed or paranoid right! I have spoken to two doctors and two forums yet I am not able to get my mind off of a herpes diagnosis and I think this is due to reading too much information from many sources online.

Farewell!

You are very welcome. If I were in your shoes knowing what I know. I would have no problem resuming sexual relations with your partner.

I can still see the cuts but only when I am stretching the skin and looking closely. Some seem to have nearly completely gone away since they appeared two days ago (also uncharacteristic of HSV?), but some are still a bit visible.
The doctor I saw has been working at the sexual health clinic for many years and if she was not worried about what I was describing, and what she saw, in light of my recent exposure and testing then I will try not to worry.

I do not suspect it is HSV either, due to anxiety (I'm sure its obvious I have it regarding this) I am extensively educated and aware on this topic. I just want to be able to rule it out, though it does not look like I have any real options for that untill the 12 week mark?

I have just seen too many online forums where women discuss symptoms like these ones (although I have not seen pictures as "cuts" and "fissures" may be very different in these cases from what I am describing) that have turned out to be HSV, even though many women have these symptoms that do not turn out to be HSV I am nervous with the possibility or likelihood of this actually being an STD and not just an irritation.

I do sincerely appreciate your honest comments and helping me through this. It makes me feel a lot better that you also do not believe this is Herpes. Taking time out of your day to respond to crazy anxiety ridden individuals like me is a huge help and thank you!!

One last question, can I continue sex with my partner? Or should I venture forward cautiously and wait till the 12 week mark when I can take a blood test?

You can still swab the area but the odds are low you will pick up the virus if you have one (which I don't think you do). Can you still find the cuts? If not then I wouldn't go see anothrr Dr yet.
Honestly judging by your symptoms and the sex you recently had I highly doubt this is hsv. You should try and relax. If the cuts come back then get swabbed asap. You can take a blood test at twelve weeks for peace of mind.
Hsv1 doesn't present this way and I really see no risk from hsv2. The condom covered penis was no risk and thats the only area that would contact you in the area where your cuts were. I hope this helps a little bit

So I went to the clinic and told her about my issues. She took a look at me and said she saw nothing like what I was talking about and that she was not worried about what was going on down there with me at all, as it was pretty much cleared up at that point.
She did not take a swab because she saw nothing to swab.

Can you still swab an area even if there are no sores?
Should I go to another clinic for a second opinion?

Thanks

I have seen it go either way. In your case I really lean towards then negative. Due to your symptoms which are not likely to be hsv1 primary outbreak. Your chances of hsv2 in the area you have the cuts in are very close to zero due to the condom protected sex.

Have you seen people on this forum in situations with symptoms like this come back positive? Negative?

I just don't understand what kind of terrible luck I have if this is HSV, I am so scared, especially considering I know it would be from these two encounters because I was cleared just before.

Thanks for your help I will let you know what happens.

Given your protected sex and the placement of the cuts I do not suspect hsv. Have them do a swab test even if they don't suspect hsv. Also make sure they type soecific test the sample.  You could get hsv1 from oral sex but the odds are very low. Hsv2 from penetrated sex in that area is nearly zero due to the condom orotected sex. If the condom stayed on and didn't break then I highly doubt this is hsv. Even if it did and your oaetner has hsv2 your odds are still very very low. Like 1 in a 1000. Good luck and let us know how the appointment went.
