HPV 1 and oral

I'm waiting for my results from the doctor, she tested me for herpes. She believes the "rash" on my anal (and a little on my genitals) is HPV 1. I've been with my gf for about 5 months now. she has about 2 cold sores a year. The doc says I probably contracted it 2-4 weeks ago. But my gf did not have a coldsore then, but we did have oral quite a few times one weekend in the beginning of the month. She obviouisly will need to be tested. But if she has oral HPV1 and I have genital HPV1, can we still safely have oral sex and/ or genital to genital.. Or has my sex life now come to a halt at age 25. I'm afraid she will not want to touch me at all now

I'm glad they typed your culture for you.  It's better to know what you have than it is not to know and have to wait. this way you and your gf can talk about this and deal with it.

recurrences should be few and far between too. If she has hsv1 orally and you have it genitally, it won't be too much of an issue for the two of you in the long run.

"Our culture is so uneducated on how serious oral HSV-1 is."

That statement is very incorrect. HSV1 is not serious. Over 60% of the adult population has HSV1 orally, and most of us won't make it to the old folks home without it. It's a mere pesky skin condition.

I in fact have genital HSV1. If this is the worst thing to happen to me, I'll be blessed!

Were your test results positive via blood test or swab/culture?

Not sure why you're worried about here health and stress in regards to her having oral HSV1. If you both have HSV1, there's really no issue. Having it already gives you each significant protection from getting it elsewhere. As a precaution just avoid sex during an active outbreak.

I got my results today positive for HSV-1 genitally. I'm scared, i dont know how to tell my gf. I dont want her to take the blame... Our culture is so uneducated on how serious oral HSV-1 is, I never knew it could be contagious when no symptoms are present. She obviously did not know either. I'm more concerned about her health and stress. I can deal with this, I will just have to be way more cautious to keep others safe. I need more articles to read to teach her that this isn't the worst that could happen and everything in our relationship can still be the same besides for being cautious sexually.

yes a saline enema is fine. all the fun you've been having eh?

Hopefully at this point the worst is over. Your bowels should be returning to normal soon.  benefiber is fine to help bulk things up and keep it moving.

the lesion culture should've been typed. If it wasn't, insist they call the lab they use and order it typed. faster and far more accurate answers than waiting for blood test results a few months from now.

You need urine and blood testing for full std screening.

oh thank you! i have been taking several baths a day to soak just my anal/genital area. It did help when I urinated in water. I went to the doctor wed and she said she'd call fri but never did. When i called saturday, the office said she'd call mon. I've been a nervous wreck these past few days so I've been researching like crazy. I tried an enema not long ago.  I sat in the tub in a squat with the shower head rinsing me off. I finally passed the stool I've been holding the past week. What a relief. It was just a saline enema, is that alright? I just couldn't handle the discomfort any longer. My doc-q-lace stool softener didn't seem to help. Would it be wise to take a fiber supplement like benefiber??

I'll be sure to ask about vaginitis too. Thank you. Will i need a separate blood test done for an type specific herpes test, or will the swab cover that since it was taken directly from the outbreak? Even if i end up being negative, I'd like to get fully tested for STD's. Can a blood test cover a full STD test?

drink plenty of water and also if you aren't moving your bowels at least every other day, take mirlax or even  a regular laxative.  Drinking plenty of water keeps the ph of the urine less acidic so it burns less flowing over the lesions.  If urine flowing over any remaining  lesions is painful either try urinating into warm water ( a sitz bath set up works well for this instead of crawling into the bathtub to urinate ) or put your hand in a disposable glove or a baggie and physically cover the lesions so urine can't run over them.  Also drinking plenty of water helps to keep your bowel movements soft so they hurt less. You really want to keep the stool soft and regular because otherwise it's more pressure in there on already overly irritated nerves in that area. Herpes can cause issues with the bladder and the bowels and being on narcotics just makes it even worse.  Also topical anesthetics like dermoplast spray ( the blue can for the genital area, not the red can ) are also helpful. You can spray them on for pain relief when you have herpes lesions present. If your anal area is irritated too you can use it there too.

bv makes it easier for herpes to infect your genital area. oral sex is also known to cause bv. bv also causes herpes to be more of an issue so definitely follow up to see if you also have vaginitis going on.

you will feel better even though at the moment, it's not happening soon enough :(

On top of all of that, I has serious constipation and it burns and hurts to go. When I do go, only a small amount is expelled. I have been given a stool softener, vicodin and valtrex. The rash on my genitals cleared up, but my anal area is still very sore. Have hardly eaten in the past week, it is too painful to go to the bathroom

Many lesbians have also had male partners at some point so you could've contracted hsv2 from a female partner at some point too.  Cover your bases and get a type specific herpes igg blood test too at some point and certainly have your partner cover hers too.

did you also get tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally too when you were seen?

Oh yes sorry I meant HSV. I had a swab of the "rash" taken. it started on my anus, I had thought I tore something after a strenuous bowel movement, then a rash appeared there and days later on my genitals. You see, I am a lesbian who has never had intercourse with a man, so I don't know how I could have gotten HSV2 if I don't have genital-genial contact.

hpv is not herpes. please be careful when typing since I'm sure you meant hsv1.

you don't need to have an obvious cold sore present in order to contract hsv1 genitally.

at this point, wait for your test results. I also recommend your gf contact her provider this week and ask for a type specific herpes igg blood test herself to see what her status is.  Either of you could've had hsv2 prior to meeting and never knew it. Once you have test results back showing who has what, I will gladly answer all your other questions about precautions and such.

what testing did you have done?
