HSV-1 recurrence

I was infected genitally with HSV-1 through oral sex with an infected partner. He didn't know he was infected. I had never had any kind of cold sore previously and suffered a wicked outbreak -- fever, chills, swollen glands, swollen gums, countless sores in the genital region that were outrageously painful -- and it lasted well over two weeks. This week I had fever, chills, swollen gums (haven't been able to eat for about three days now), and swollen glands. This feels just like the last outbreak except without the genital "stuff." Also, I just recently (as the other symptoms are backing off a little) I've developed a couple of sores in my mouth -- one was blister-like on the inside of my lip, others seem ulcer-like, plus I have two canker sores on my tongue. My doctor, whom I called, but did not visit, seemed to think it was unrelated to the HSV-1. Has anyone else out there had this kind of recurrence?

It sounds like what I went through and I tested positive for genital hsv 1.  I even went to my dr. two times because he thought that I just had some cuts from recent sex, did an entire exam and didn't test me for hsv the first time.  I went back a week later still concerned which is when they tested for it, still thinking it was nothing.  Again, this was even after two exams!  The cultures they take will only test positive if it's active, so get in sooner rather than later.  The blood work will represent a longer time frame, I did both.  Really, better safe than sorry, but if you catch it at the wrong time, it could test negative even if it's there.

Good luck.

This could be hsv1 orally reoccuring or it could be something completely unrelated. At this point th ebest thing to do is to go and be seen - a phone consult doesn't cut it with something like this.
