HSV1 by using water dispenser

I know that it is possible to get HSV1 by sharing a drinking glass with someone when they are having an outbreak or shedding.  My question is this.  I have one of those refrigerators that dispenses cold water from the door by pressing your glass against a rubber button.  If someone with HSV1 fills their glass after drinking out of it and I use the dispenser to fill my glass sometime later (say 1/2 hour) can I get HSV1 from the button?  Would this be considered the same as sharing a glass with them?

Thank you for your help!

Thank you for your help!  If I can I have one more question about the water dispenser.  I walk with crutches and I carry a glass by grabbing the lip of the glass.  I understand that HSV is transmitted by being rubbed into skin.  If some HSV was on the button of the dispenser and it got on the lip of my glass could I get a whitlow from the pressure that I have to put on the glass to carry it?  Was your answer that HSV from the dispenser was not a risk based on there not being enough HSV to transmit the virus or on it not getting rubbed into my skin as it would through a kiss?  I know all of this sounds silly, but I'm quite concerned as I would have a hard time walking with a whitlow.

Thanks again for your help!

as an adult, oral herpes is almost exclusively transmitted through romantic type kisses. It's not worth worrying that  you'd get it any other way.

even if someone did have an active cold sore and refilled their glass from your water/ice dispenser on the fridge, it wouldn't be an issue. Even if they licked it or something strange like that, it's still not an issue.

don't be fearful of herpes - be educated!!!

I guess the reason I have fears about herpes is because it is permanent and I have cerebral palsy and several permanent health concerns associated with that.  I'm afraid that if I got another one I might not be able to handle it.

Can I ask one more question?  If a person can get HSV1 by sharing a drinking glass with someone who is having an outbreak, could I get it by using the water dispenser immediately after them?  I worry because my brother and his wife and daughter get fairly frequent outbreaks and we have frequent family gatherings.

I'm sorry to be a bother.  Thank you for your help!  There is so much misinformation out there.  My family doctor told me I could get HSV1 through the air just by being near someone with an outbreak.  That really upset me.
