HSV2 IGG test results

I was tested for both HSV1 and HSV2 back in November 2013 and HSV 1 was positive as expected with an index value of 4.22 since I've had cold sore outbreaks every 2-5 years since I was 7 years old. HSV2 was negative.

Fast forward to this year, I have a new partner and started getting sick, (cold, flu like symptoms) and eventually I was diagnosed with pneumonia back in late February/early March. I recovered within two weeks but my Dr said my immune system was shot and I needed to boost it and also reduce my stress levels because that affects my recovery.

I started to feel sick again around April 8th, just a general sick feeling, but also had some vaginal discharge and burning, which I attributed to a possible yeast infection. I also noticed my lips were burning, no sores on my lips just burning.
Went to the Dr on April 9th and had a pelvic exam and culture was taken. I was diagnosed with a yeast infection and prescribed Diflucan for it. Samples were sent to the lab to check for other infections such as Trich or VB.

The vaginal burning started to go away shortly after I started taking the Diflucan and was completely gone by day 3, but my lips were still burning and I was still feeling sick so I went back to see my Dr on April 13th.

At this point she noticed I had a sore on the back of my throat and ordered a full STD panel. I was also diagnosed with allergies and told to start taking Zyrtec.
A couple days later my results were in and to my shock and horror HSV1 was positive with a value of 28.65 and HSV2 was positive with a value of 15.22. All other STD's were negative. I was in disbelief, I've never had an STD in my life, how could this be? I don't remember having sores in the genital area.
I was prescribed Valtrex which I started taking and the burning on my lips started to go away and the sore in my throat was gone in about a day.

I took the Valtrex for about 2 weeks because I was terrified that I was going to have a genital outbreak but after thinking about it for a bit I decided that if I've had this for a while then my body is doing a good job at suppressing this virus since I've never had a genital outbreak that I can remember.
I waited a week after stopping the Valtrex and went to the health department and had them test me for HSV2 only. The test came back positive but with the much lower value of 2.5
The lab that did the test in 11/2013 and 4/2016 was Labcorp and it was an IGG test both times.
The lab the health department used is Quest.

I'm going to wait another month and retest again since my doctor thinks it was cross reactivity from HSV1 and also because at the time I tested I've had pneumonia in the last 30 days, had a yeast infection in the last 7 days, had an HSV1 outbreak and allergies.

Is my doctor correct? Could the fact I had all these conditions going on around the same time have tripped the test? Or as my user name states; Im just in denial?
My new partner got tested and tested negative for both types, so in a way this gives me hope since at first I thought he had given me HSV2. I was in a long term relationship before him >15 years and my partner never had any infections in the genital area ever.

Labcorp
11/2013
HSV1 4.22
HSV2 <.90

Labcorp
04/2016
HSV1 28.65
HSV2 15.22

Quest

HSV2 2.50

What should I do?

Nice job. It's the gold standard of hsv testing. Good luck and let us know the results please.

I got my Western Blot test results back today and guess what? It came back NEGATIVE for HSV2 and positive for HSV1, which I already knew I had since I've had a few outbreaks since childhood.
I'm over the moon, I feel like I just dodged a giant bullet and although people say, "it's just a skin condition" I'm glad that I don't have it.
It's been almost 3 months since i was told I had it and it's been emotional hell for me. I feel like i've learned a lot and can sympathize with the people that are affected with this condition. And although I don't have it I do feel for the people that do, I pray science comes out with a vaccine for this horribly stigmatized condition.
I agree and congratulations!!!

Fleetwood20 hit the nail on the head. Contact the university of Washington and have them send you the westernblot kit. That will sort out the hsv2 issue

Did you have other partners from 11/2013 up until the current partner. (Maybe the long term partner? One night stands etc?)

Are all the tests IgG including those of your partner? All with >1.1 a positive?

The bets thing to do here is obtain a Westernblot test for HSV. Look at the UofW website for information to take to your doctor. You can take the HSV2 answer as definitive.
