I have HSV 1 oral. Recently Ive had itching in the buttocks. I've been to the ob/gyn 5 times in two weeks. They have done cultures. NOTHING. I had a uti which I was taking arthromycin to treat. The antibiotics caused a yeast infection and I took 1x diflucan to treat. The symptoms subsided but today I have the itching again in the anal area. Please help I'm scared. I've also been experiencing frequent 2x a month oral sores. Before outside my mouth now seem to occuring in my mouth. Another question my bf does not have symptoms of either. HSV 1 oral or genital. At least no visible signs. Do I have genital HSV 1 ? where is this itching coming from? Especially since there are no visible lesions.

no this isn't shingles.  only like 4% of folks ever get a recurrence of shingles and I forget how many folks get more than 1 reoccurance but it's miniscule.

I know it's hard waiting but at this point it's the best thing.

I have an appointment next Weds. Just trying to get an idea of what is going on before I get there. I'm wondering if the symptoms that I have could be related to shingles? I know shingles normally doesn't reoccur but last year I had a cluster of blisters on my right leg. Visual diagnoses by my MD confirmed shingles. I'm kind of wishing I would have had him swab it to be sure. I'm just so worried and confused at this point. The sores in my mouth, my lip has been inflammed and dry for weeks now some days more severe than others. Around my mouth is always itchy and dry. I just never had all these issues before. I get a cold sore on my lip, smack some abreva on it, gone in 5 days. Now I'm in constant discomfort! I guess I'm just looking for answers. This constant itching, swelling, and pain is starting to effect my everyday life.. :-(

honestly sometimes the best thing you can do is get off the 'net.  the more you read, the more you convince yourself you have herpes going on many times.

Have you considered counseling for your herpes obsession?  If you are thinking that every rash must mean herpes, perhaps it's time for some professional help to get a better way to deal with these thoughts?

Yes, it does. I just get frustrated because everything I read or hear from people is that herpes is the cause, but no other viruses...axcept that cox one that causes hand foot mouth disease. And quite honestly, I do not think it is herpes either since nothing is going on with my lips (since I figure it would show up there too since I have neither strand of virus as of yet). My sister has HSV 1 and she freaked out too when she was tested a year or two ago but she also stated she has never had an outbreak anywhere before especially on her lips...so I also didn't know if our immune systems are built up enough to where we are the few who do not show it on our skin...if that makes sense.

I know, as well as the Docs, that I have a phobia of herpes. Anything red I see on my body, if I had any type of sex or kissing within a month or so, makes me freak that I  automatically think that I have herpes. I am planning on getting seen again by the Dr for another examination, but I am waiting for time from my job as well as money to do so. I've been holding off meeting anyone or kissing anyone afraid of giving whatever is going on with me to them.

Especially this occuring 17 days after me giving oral sex, just set my head off....even though I was only freaking for the first 10 days since I have read that it usually takes 4 days for most people to show symptoms. Oral herpes does happen but why is there no information about it? Everything only mentions that it happens in children the first time but not again. Like I said, I don't think that is what I have either, but the mirror just freaks me out when I see it. I was thinking it is the place that I work at. The bathroom here in this old building gives off this...odor of chemicals or just bacteria in the air that you can feel. In the past, I have been looking at my mouth in this bathroom and so I have taken into consideration that I was breathing in airborn germs that have could have caused this.

Either way, I apolize for my over posting on this site to other peoples posts...but when they mention sores in the mouth, I have to comment on it. =)

they can do a pcr swab on it. it's literally wetting a medical q tip and swabbing the entire area.

I think you just need the peace of mind of hearing it's not herpes so you can move past herpes for once and for all.

A + blood test doesn't mean what is going on is due to herpes. Blood tests have their limits and when atypical symptoms are occurring frequently, lesion cultures are the only way to confirm that indeed they are herpes related.   You really  have to be careful on sites where folks say this is herpes related because many times, they aren't getting the proper evaluations and work ups they need to confirm what is going on. make sense?

Haha, well I relaxed for a week since it went away, but again yesterday it came back. Not so much I am obsessed with this, but every time I relax enough to settle down, something else shows up that gets me going again. There is nothing there to culture, nothing leaking...unless they can culture saliva. Plus, it is hard to get a culture since it lasts only three days at the most, but it still burns. Just find it interesting that there are a lot of people on these types of sites with the same symptoms I am having that actually turn up poz for this...

nothing you've mentioned sounds like it's oral herpes going on.

if it's not herpes, all the valtrex in the world isn't going to help which is why you are experiencing symptoms in new areas now.  I'd see an ENT specialist at this point.

1 out of every 10 adults has a gluten allergy. gluten allergies can cause issues in the mouth as well as the anal/genital area. might be worth avoiding gluten for a month and see if that helps too. Also look at your toothpastes and chewing gums and such. Nothing cinnamon. nothing "total" or "complete" and avoid whitening and tartar control too.  nothing with extra strong mint flavorings either.

Is it possible that the virus is moving along the nerve affecting all of these areas? I'm so frustrated. It seems as though the valtrex was working and now it seems like the virus is affecting other areas and the valtrex is not helping much or at all. My boyfriend won't go to the MD which is another frustrating aspect. I want to know his status so I'll know how to handle future obs. The sores in my mouth are getting worse. I am wondering if there is some other underlying issue. Should I have my MD do some lab work? If so what should I request?

we've discussed this before. at this point blood tests aren't the answer for you. Told you numerous times that this isn't herpes going on. Also told you that lesion cultures at this point are the only herpes testing worthwhile for you too I believe.

Really you need to step back a bit from all of this I think. Take a break from the internet too. Live your life instead of obsessing about herpes :)

Well, I know that sucks. Trust me, I am going through the same thing with my tongue. Instead of being on my cheeks, roof of mouth, and gums...it is just on my tongue that has these red areas that keep forming that look infected with something. Plus, it is accompanied with a burning sensation. Ya know, I think there is a segment of people HSV that get it in their mouth that may not have been studied by researchers to put in their reports that this happens more often than they think. True, it can be something else but right now I'm going to say that is what it is. Next week, I am hoping to get bloodwork done again on Monday. Mistakeguy posted on another post about how, as weeks go by, the accuracy percentage increases...which I think he said after two weeks is 50% accurate with bloodwork...so I dunno how accurate a 9/10 week testing is.

Though, it seems that your symptoms are worse than what is going on with me. But, at the same time, you also know you get coldsores....which I have never had one (and hope to never get one even if this is herps). So yeah, i'm just as confused as you. =(

Thanks for sharing your experience. To mistakeguy no I haven't been to the dentist. I've been really scared and frustrated lately. There are sores on my gums, tongue, roof of my mouth, cheeks, under the tongue. I don't know what is going on. I went to my PCP he said it's canker sores on my cheeks because at the time there was nothing on my gums. I'm terrified because I feel like the HSV is moving to different areas. The inside of my mouth and now recently my nose. I been having extreme discomfort in my nostril. Itching, slight burning, etc. My frustration comes from having very mild symptoms of oral HSV then occassional 1-2/yr. Now I feel like I'm battling my own body. 1g of valtrex/day, vitamin C, and multi-vitamins. I've been trying to keep low stress. I'm a 3rd yr forensic science major with a concentration in criminalistics and mo-bio. So trying to stay stress free is sometimes extremely difficult. My lips are constantly itching and burning, small bumps on the lips that seem to disappear or subside and then reoccur a couple of days later. I feel it is related to the herpes because after I take the valtrex, the bumps subside and don't itch as much. The stress from being in constant discomfort is starting to interfere with school and work. I used to have control of this disease my obs were so few.  Now I feel like I'm a walking ob. :-(

Haha, well not really laughing, more like I know what it feels to be worried about something that noone seems to be able to explain. I've never had sores on the roof of my mouth or gums really, except the occasional canker sore on the gums or cheeks, but now I am getting constant red sores on the tip or sides of my tongue that, oddly enough, start off as white "gunk", not really a blister as when the white stuff goes away to leave an ulcer looking thing, but it only leaves just the red "circle/spot" with nothing in the middle like a canker sore would. One time, while the sores were at the tip of the tongue, my gums became swollen as well as my tongue to where it hurt to drink, eat, or brush my teeth. I too am scared to kiss someone, but I do not want to tell him too that I have herpes on my tongue when I'm not sure what it is.

Though, I will say I have noticed something different with my gums.  It looks like at certain locations, generally next to the teeth, that there are indentations as if it is eroding away. I was keeping track of the inside of my gums even before this started happening to see if there were any changes, which there were two spots that were "eroding" away it looked like. After the sores started to show up, I started observing the gums near the sores that happen at the tip to see if these red spots has moved to my gums, and one day I noticed that there was a darker "triangle" looking spot that was not there the day before that hasn't gone away, nor does it hurt.

Also, the dentist will not do ANYTHING about it. I called two of them today to make an appointment and they told me the best thing to do was to be seen by an actual Dr. or a specialist for that since it is not dealing with "the teeth."

So yeah, I feel what you are going through. I know we can't do it on here, but if you want to talk about what is going on with our mouths and perhaps provide pics, we can do that.

They have been showing up under the lip. Like between my gum and inner lip, on my gums, and the roof of my mouth. I'm glad one of us is laughing because this has been a total nightmare for me. I haven't kissed my boyfriend in two weeks.

obviously something is going on. did your provider offer any suggestions as to the cause of the white patches as well as any treatments?

You can follow up on this with an ENT specialist if needed also.

No I don't have any of those things. The oral outbreaks are becoming more frequent. I went to the MD and he said he doesnt see anything in my mouth except white lesions that don't seem to be related to the cold sores outside my mouth. It seems like every morning I wake up I have these little bumps on my lips but nothing ever blisters. Sometimes it disappears and shows up in a different spot. No itching, burning, tingling, that goes for the bumps I've noticed in my mouth and on my gums. They are very tiny, white and circular. Any takers?

Have you seen your provider as grace suggested? There's nothing more we can help you with - we can't diagnose you on an online forum.

Please help. I haven't kissed my boyfriend in 4 days because I'm afraid the rash on my lips and sores in my mouth have been caused by the HSV.

I also suffer from atopic epidermis (eczema). But haven't had any issues near the mouth on on the lips my whole life. Plus this wouldn't explain the sores in my mouth.
