Help.

Last summer, my girlfriend and I broke up for several months, during which time I had sex with two other women. Two months after having had sex with either of these girls, I began to experience pain at the base of my butt/top of my thigh, and I developed red blisters on my scrotum, where my thigh meets my groin, as well as the right side of my penis shaft. After several days, I went to the Doctor--after hearing my symptoms relayed by the nurse, he informed me that he had expected to diagnose herpes. However, upon examining me, he informed me that he believed I had shingles...he then showed me in a mirror where my red "bumps" seemed to follow a nerve, as if someone had traced them in a line. All of these bumps/blisters were on the right side of my body, including those on my penis...none ever developed on the left side. My Doctor told me he felt confident this was shingles, but to be on the safe side, he had a blood test performed--this came back negative for both HSV1 and 2.

Fast-forward a month or two later, my previous girlfriend and I had gotten back together, and after having sex one afternoon I noticed that my penis had small, red dots on the head and what appeared to be welts or lesions in two areas on the shaft. These went away after a day or two, but several weeks later reappeared...again, after having sex with my girlfriend. This has now happened 2-3 times, usually after having sex, but has happened once after masturbating as well. The red spots are just that...spots...they aren't really blisters, nor do they pop or ooze, and they always appear in the same places. The most recent welt looked and felt as if someone had scratched the head of my penis with their fingernail. For several hours post-sex, the head of my penis was also fairly sensitive. This sensitivity went away after a few hours, and the red spots and lesions a day or two later. However, later in the week, these red dots and the outline of the most recent "welt" reappeared after masturbating.

I've done as much research on my own as one can do...unlike with the "shingles," these dots aren't really blisters, and these appear on both sides of my penis whereas with the shingles they only appeared on one side. When these marks appear, they do so immediately post-sex, always in the same places, and always clear up within hours or at most a day or two. Could this be a yeast infection? some skin irritation/allergic reaction brought on by having shingles and now having more sensitive skin? or is the most likely scenario that my doctor and the blood tests were wrong, and I have a form of herpes? Please advise.

I can't recall whether he tested me for shingles, or whether he solely had me tested for Hsv1 and Hsv2 for my own peace of mind. Frankly, after he said "your results came back negative for both Hsv1 and 2," I was so relieved I don't think I heard another word he said. I realize herpes zoster (shingles) is not the same virus has herpes simplex.

Hi, if the doctor suspected shingles then he should have tested you for shingles. Hsv1 and hsv2 are not the same herpes as shingles and unless you test for this it wont come up on the test. But however what your describing appears to be some kind a reaction as you suggest but i dont believe its shingles. Shingles is very painful rash and after having the first outbreak, rarely does a second occur.
