genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection. If you have been diagnosed with it and haven't had sex in 14 years, that means you've had it all this time and just never realized it until you recently had obvious genital symptoms that led you to be seen and get properly tested and diagnosed.
I can best help you if you post your test results here. All I need to see are the actual numeric results - ie hsv1 igg 7.6 and hsv2 igg 4.3 or whatever they are. That way I can be sure you were properly tested and to see ifyou need additional testing done or not.
did you also have a lesion culture done on your active symptoms or just the blood tests?

2. I think you should ask your doctor for the a copy of the result and post it here! Usually the number which is specified and also they type can help the most experienced on this forum to tell you wether or not it might have been a misdiagnose.
A lot of doctors call anything above the cut ofline positive and dont even think twice about it. So post your results!
Im also a bit curios as to why they just did blood test if you have active symptoms?
Hope your feeling better.
what was the blood test called? An igg blood test is accurate. So if ur test was something eles i would question ur result.
1. Yes, some people with HSV2 never experience an outbreak, some will experience very few in their lifetime, and others won't experience and outbreak until years later (this is you). It all depends on your immune system and how your body reacts towards this particular virus.
2. It is possible to be diagnosed, this would be called a false positive, but most of the time the tests are correct, and if you have an outbreak now you do indeed have HSV2. The blood test most commonly used is the IgG blood work test, and it's pretty accurate especially when it's type specific.
3. Masturbation in general will not bring on an outbreak, the fact that you are post menopausal is irrelevant. It's probably irritation or a tear from lack of lubrication.
