Herpes Infection

I just tested positive for Oral Herpes (HSV1) - I was afraid to death when I found out but after research find that a large percentage of people have this strain because it's so contagious, but don't know it because they haven't experienced an outbreak, neither have I...... But I'm worried that I may have infected others...... So my question is 3-fold..... Can I infect someone by giving them oral and therefore in effect give them HSV-2 (genital Herpes) because I have HSV1?  secondly, how concerned should I be about spreading this disease if I'm not experiencing an outbreak? And lastly, I could have had this virus for years (this is the 1st time I ever got tested for it....so is it possible for someone to have HSV1 and never experience an outbreak? ..... Thanks so kindly for your responses to all 3 questions

What test was given and what was your numeric value?

Hsv1 and hsv2 are different strains of the herpes virus. The location doesn't change the strain. Example, if you have hsv1 and give it to someone via oral sex then it is still hsv1. Just a genital infection of hsv1.
It is possible to transmit the virus to your partner from giving oral sex. It's a lot less of a chance when no outbreak is present.
Really the only thing you can do is avoid oral sex and kissing while experiencing an outbreak.
To your third question. It is possible to have hsv 1 without having outbreaks or cold sores. Most times this happens when folks get hsv1 when they are small children. This is when most people get it as small children are very susceptible as the immune system isn't very strong and the mucus membranes are thin. Usually there are outbreaks then the virus is held in check by your bodies antibodies.
All that being said I really do want to know what blood test was given. Igg or igm or both. Which one was positive and what was the numeric value. This will help me as to what is really going on.

Ok thanks for your response..... I will check with my health care provider and find out what test was given and what the numerical value was
The test was IGG and numeric value was greater than 62

Ok. It would appear you have oral hsv1 but it's not a big deal. Most of the adult popilation has it. If your partner has ever had a cold sore then you would not infect any part of them as they already have the virus.
