Herpes Symptoms 2 Hours After Sexual Contact?

Hi, I am a 28 year old male. I had a one night stand last night with a female. We had protected sex, I did use a condom. I noticed approx an hour and a half after we had sex that my genital area was very itchy. The itchy feeling was primarily on my pelvic area right above my penis.  I scratched the area and could start to feel some small bumps.  When visually inspected I couldn't really see anything.  My question is, is it possible to show signs and symptoms of a herpes infection literally hours after sexual contact? Or could I be over thinking this and it's some kind of irritation from harsh rubbing against my sexual partners pelvic area?

this doesn't sound like herpes at all at this point.

odds are this is either a reaction to the condom or lube on it or just irritation more than anything.

no suppressive therapy doesn't keep your immune response from occurring.  antivirals don't keep the virus from being active - they stop the viral replication process from being completed enough to cause shedding as often as well as lesions when it is active.

hsv1 genitally doesn't shed often . not enough bang for your buck to make it worth taking to be honest.

If my partner does not have HSV1 or HSV2 how high is the risk I could transmit HSV1 to them orally if they give me oral sex? Should I not go on suppressive therapy to avoid transmitting it to them genitally or orally?

Also will going on suppressive therapy hinder my body in forming anti bodies to the virus? Like if I started on suppressive therapy for the first year and then stopped, that I'd run the risk of getting outbreaks again because of the suppressive therapy interfering with my body naturally adapting to the virus?

I appreciate the information and answers to my questions. I did download and read the handbook.

a newly acquired herpes infection will not cause symptoms 2 hours after the encounter let alone all the symptoms you had initially. I think you had a reaction to something at the time and then a few days later the herpes ob occurred.

Hsv1 for 1/2 the people who contract it never reoccurs genitally. Of those who do get recurrences the average is 1 additional ob the first year and then 1 ob every other year. only a small percentage of folks get ob's more often. this is all covered in the handbook I recommended.

When you say I have more then just genital herpes going on, what exactly do you mean? I'm confused. Are you saying that it is possible that I contracted the herpes with that encounter and started to show symptoms 2 hours later but it was due to something else that accelerated it?
I did have a IGG test done in Feb that tested for both HSV1 and HSV2 to which both were negative. From that time to now I did have 3 sexual partners which includes the latest encounter.

Well for some reason my Doc prescribed me Zovirax 800mg 3x/day for 7 days. He initially prescribed Valtrex but I do not have insurance so that was going to cost me $200 compared to the $25 for the Zovirax.

With HSV1 genitally how many outbreaks would you estimate I could have a year? This initial outbreak is pretty serious. I've experienced the itching, burning, small bumps that turned into small blisters, leg pain, swollen lymph nodes in the groin, slight lower back pain, slight body aches.

I believe you have more than just genital herpes going on.  something else caused your early symptoms and then when the blisters formed you realized you had herpes. make sense. unless you had a herpes igg blood test that was + for hsv1 at the time of your symptoms, no easy way to know if it's a newly acquired infection for you or not.  if you get one early next week it might help answer that question better for you.

the acyclovir dose is 400mg 3x/day for 7-10 days for a newly acquired infection.

we don't recommend suppressive therapy for hsv1 most of the time. it doesn't reoccur very often and only sheds about 2-3 weeks total out of the year.  if your partner already has hsv1 orally, they aren't likely at all to contract hsv1 genitally from you.

Yes, I received unprotected oral sex.  But again, symptoms within 2 hours of the encounter? Is that really possible? Or did I have this infection from before that is just coming to light now?
I will look up the book.

When I went to see the Doc, he prescribed me Zovirax 800 mg 3 times a day, which I have been taking since. The itching is still there, but not as bad as before.

So since it is HSV1 in my genital area, it has a less chance of transmission to a partner? Does that include if they gave me oral sex? Should I get on suppressive therapy?

did you also have oral sex with this partner?

hsv1 genitally is the "milder" form of genital herpes. Not milder as in less painful but milder in less recurrences and less chance of transmission to a partner. the herpes handbook is a free resource that has terrific info on genital herpes. just google it and it comes right up.

are you still having the itching issues you had originally?

Culture came back positive for HSV1. What can I expect by having HSV1 genitally? I thought HSV2 infected the genital area? Is there any difference having HSV1 in the genital area?

I went to see my doc. Upon visual inspection he said he does infact think that it is HSV1. He took a culture to send out for testing to make sure, but he said he was pretty confidant it was herpes. I really don't know what to think and am not even sure my mind has processed this entirely. What will my life be like from this point on? I have no idea what to do.

nothing else we can possibly help you with at this point. you need to be following up with medical providers face to face to get better answers.

I am now noticing that the bumps do look like small blisters. If this is herpes, how long would it usually take for the blisters to become open sores and crust over?

I looked up latex/condom allergy symptoms and they state that the heavy burning and itching sensation are usual signs of an allergy. They also say that there could be possible welts or even blisters and that it could look very similar to herpes symptoms. What defining symptom would definitely differentiate between a herpes infection? I'm just confused if it is a latex allergy why the itching and burning wouldn't be on my penis instead of the pelvic area.

As Grace stated, you will not get symptoms for ANY STD 2 hours post encounter. The soonest would be 2+ days. Just not possible. And stop scratching! It only irritates things more...

Really? What about it doesn't make it sound like herpes? I thought itching and burning were tell tale signs of herpes? I've used latex condoms before and never had any allergic reaction to them before. Besides if it was an allergic reaction to the condom or lube, wouldn't the itching and/or rash be on my penis where it makes direct contact instead of the pelvic area? I appreciate your answers. Thanks.

I plan on going to be seen on Monday, but right now I'm going insane and am scared. I'm reading all these symptoms online and I think I do have it. Im feeling this great itching and burning sensation in my pelvic area and again I can feel approx 5 or so bumps but they aren't really that visible. If it is herpes how long would it take for the bumps to become open sores and then crust over? Also why would this occur immediately after a sexual encounter if I did not contract it from that sexual partner?

I'm now starting to feel slight body aches as well. I can feel the bumps in my pelvic/pubic area still, and they still itch, but I still really can't see anything visually. They slightly hurt if I touch them. It's been approx 16 hours since the sexual contact, is it possible to have all these symptoms this early? Am I driving myself crazy for no reason? Any info would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
