Herpes and Transmitting

My blood test came back that I have a brand new out break of herpes. It was not tested for simplex 1 or 2. I broke out on my anus, vagina, and my lip. After I broke out and got it confirmed it was herpes my boyfriend got a blood test done and came back he had it in the past and was laying dormat (he never had a bad outbreak) he was diagnosed with simplex 1. So therefore me never having herpes before and it being fresh he gave it to me orally? Passing it to my vagina and mouth? What I don't understand is my anus since its simplex one. I guess I'm a little lost. Also after my out break he broke out in his lip really bad. This is all frustrating.

Sorry, I did not mean to infer that this was your created confusion, most of the confusion looks to have been provided by your doctor!

Here is what I think has happened. Your swab has come back positive for HSV but not typed, this is very common. I think you have had a negative IgG test for HSV1 and HSV2. I think your doctor feels you should have had an IgM test as well that may reveal a recent infection (but is a highly unreliable test.)

I think you should test the interpretation of the above with your doctor.

Overall though, yes this may well be a primary infection of both oral and genital regions with HSV1. Lesions from both locations should be tested for some confirmation.

Although not a lot of comfort for you, the implications for your partner are nil. They cannot be infected further, there is no documented case of a male with an established oral infection becoming infected genitally. The chances seem zero or incredibly remote at worst.

And you are awaiting culture of PCR results on the swabs?

I'm not sure what you mean by suggesting your blood was not tested for HSV yet somehow confirms a recent infection??

All I'm trying to figure out is if my Boyfriend gave me HSV-1. This happened a couple months ago. I put it into words that would help me describe my situation best (guess it's not working) I was swapped in and out as well as blood tested for HSV. It came back positive that I have HSV but my Dr told me they did the wrong testing. They tested my blood to see if I've had HSV in the past which I did not. This was a new out break. He told me they didn't test what simplex if it was oral or genital. So my question is if I was not tested on which simplex and going by my boyfriend who obviously gave me HSV I would have HSV-1 like he does.

What you need to do is get confirmation of what is going on.

Did you have the lesions swabbed?

What you suggest may be a primary infection in both locations which is not common but does happen for sexually active couples. Best to get it all confirmed though.
