sure, if someone has HSV genitally and he sheds in your throat you could get your first outbreak there!! Recurrent ones will usually be on the outside of the lip area somewhere. What makes you think you have herpes of the throat?

I have had a sore throat on and off for about a month.  I have taken antibiotics and it doesn't go away permently.  Only other idea I have without going to see a doctor.  I found out that someone I was with did have herpes and didn't take his Valtrex regularly.

A sore throat for a month isn't likely to be due to herpes.  See your provider for further  work up. It easily could be GERD or even a sinusitis or allergies causing a post nasal drip too.
