Herpes or fungal infection?

I am a man mid 20s. About 4 weeks ago I noticed itchy red bumps on the left side of my groin, where the leg meets my pubic region. I tried using anti-fungal lotrimin, it was hard to tell if it was working. I additionally used a lot of baby powder trying to keep the area dry. The bumps seemed to fade (though I am unsure if its from what I was doing or just because time had gone by), though even now there is a slight pink spot where they were. As they faded I noticed about a 2 weeks later (from initially noticing the original bumps) that it had now spread to the right side of my groin in the same area, where the leg meets my pubic region. I used the same method trying to dry it out and use antifungals, and those bumps too seemed to fade, though they also have left a faded pink spot where some were. I thought I was basically in the clear as they both started fading, yet now it looks like a couple more bumps have popped up on my left side of my groin again, though they do not itch like the others before. Additionally, the pinkness from some of the previous bumps has still not faded completely. I feel like I am going crazy and this is never going away. Could this be herpes? Could it be fungal and maybe I just need stronger anti-fungal creams? I am planning on seeing a doctor now, but am looking for any kind of help in the mean time.

This does not sound like hsv at all. I would see a dermatologist as to weather it's fungal or a reaction to heat or clothing. Could be many things but hsv is the last thing on that list.
