Herpes/shingles

I am really confused by my husbands recent doctors visit. He had shingles last year InDecember.
Soon after I became pregnant and we had a baby boy. His shingles were not bad
There was a small patch his thigh. Well close to that area began to hurt again.
He went to the doctor and he says he has herpes. People are going to automatically assume
that one if us is lying about our fidelity. I am don't have it
My husband was my first and we have 3 kids and have been together 10 years.
The test came back positive. For HSV 2 titer1:20. I read that some times it's a false positive
He was told you cant have shingles in the same place twice.
The doctor just said sorry man you got it somewhere. Rude. My husband assumed
I was cheating on him. It didn't take long for him to say he was sorry. He was married before
And was cheated on so he struggles. My questions is how long can it be dormant. His
Ex had had many problems cervical cancer, Ect. Could he have gotten it from her?
Does he really have it? His last outbreak was 2 dots. Nothing has ever
Been on his man parts. Just on his leg. There was a year between these two issues.  I had a baby
And tested negative. Nothing makes since help.

both of you should seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing at this point too.

No that was the only test done. We are going to have a second opinion. My husband said he was really blunt, and didn't even want to do the test he did. He called me immediately and told me everything. Also my husband has a history of strange medical conditions. So I am left hopeful.

igm herpes testing was the absolute wrong testing to be done on him :(  the herpes igm test is a greatly flawed test, is frequently falsely positive and isn't accurate for type either.  In theory it would reflect a recently acquired infection too and since you two haven't had other partners and he's had these symptoms previously, it wouldn't be a recently acquired infection.

did he have herpes igg blood testing done?

less than 5% of folks who have a shingles recurrence get another in their lifetime. it's a shame the provider didn't culture his symptoms when he had them.

The paper says, HSV 2 igm tiger 1:20 positive <1:20. Is is common to have a no typical reaction. The last one didn't even have blisters. It just popped up and then right back down. The first time was a patch about 9 inches down on his inner thigh. There was a line of blisters that went around the back side of his leg. The doctor wrote a note that says possible reoccurrence of herpes simplex not shingles although similar treat the same. Very vague. My husband also has some serious medical issues. He is a type 1 diabetic and has thyroid diease and high trigs. All being treated and are with in range. Thanks

make sure his hsv2 igg was really 1:20 and not 1.2 . it actually makes a huge difference in my reply to you about his testing.

also you need to see if you were really tested for herpes during pregnancy. typically it's not a part of routine pregnancy testing so call and find out for sure. also make sure any herpes testing, if it was done, wasn't done in your 3rd trimester.

thanks!
