Herpes testing while taking Valtrex

Hi

My sexual partner of several months has tested positive for
HSV-2. This after I started noticing pain in the groin, unusual
burning hemmorhoids, and extremely tender scrotum and penis.

When presenting this to my dermatologist, I was told I merely
had symptoms of Shingles and he prescribed me 2000 mg
Valtrex daily for 10 days.

This diagnosis despite the fact that I told my Derm that I was
exposed to Hsv-2 for long unprotected periods!!

So, that said, first Hsv-2 igg test 3 weeks post last exposure came back
negative. Now it's been nearly six weeks and I'd like to take the igg test
again, but I'd like someone to let me know if I can take the test while
still taking the aforementioned dosage of Valtrex.

If not, then how soon thereafter may I test?

Your earliest reponse would be extremely appreciated.

I had unprotected sex with a woman and then learned later that she had HSV.  I had some symtoms when urinating but not sure it was not from me just freeking out and using too much soak in the shower (as if that would help).

I felt symtoms again and she gave me 5 Valtrex 500mg to take twice daily.  I still felt the need to be tested and on the last day I did get a blood test and it was negative.

My question is, would the Valtrex had suppressed the test result producing a faulse negative?

I'm not sure if she is or not as we're no longer partners.

Thanks for your response on the Valtrex, and I
will wait the requisite four months post exposure
then.

your 10 day course of valtrex is not an issue for your testing but you do have to wait longer to do your follow up testing in order for it to be most accurate. No reason to keep testing every few weeks for months!

Is your partner on daily suppressive therapy?

Many thanks for your review and comment, however, I guess
the basic question remains; Can I (or anyone) test with the igg test whilst
taking Valtrex?

Again, many thanks to you and others in this community for
your insight and guidance.

At this point you should wait until 4 months after the last time you had sex prior to their symptoms and then repeat the igg blood test.

I'd also get a different dermatologist too.
