Herpetic Whitlow

I have had genital herpes for 12 years. I had recently met and started dating a man who also has genital herpes And Oral herpes. I had performed oral sex on him on a Friday evening. On Sunday afternoon, I had bitten off a cuticle on my left hand ( never thought twice about doing so )... as I had never had a cold sore on my mouth. Monday morning I woke up with pain in my glands near my armpits that lasted about 24 hours... 2 days later I developed a small split in my upper lip. Now I am experiencing itching and tingling in my pinky finger.
I am scared to death that I have transferred this from my mouth to my hands ( even though I had no visible sore on my mouth ).
Does the virus live in the saliva?
Does this sound like i have herpetic whitlow ?

Since my last post..... I have been to the ER twice ..... The first time I was told that my hands have tested positive for Hsv 1.
The second time i went was for my left eye. The doctor put an orange dye in my eyes and then turned the lights off and turned on a black light. Apparently my left eyes lit up a bright orangish red which means there was one or more lesions (2) in my eye.

I think you're overreacting and doubt these symptoms are herpes. But there's nothing more this or any other online source can do for you. Find a doctor you trust and follow his or her advice about it. Good luck.

Since I last commented on your response....  I have been experiencing itching and strange sensations in my left hand and lower arm. I have also developed a small (Split ) in the skin on my pinky finger.... right next to my fingernail. I currently have a bandage on it and am Scared to death that I will infect someone else Or possibly my eyes.

My reply already considered this new exposure:  "And the chance it happened on account of your partner's oral HSV1 is almost as low." I also commented that your finger symptoms aren't suspicious for whitlow anyway.

You stated in your above comment that the spread to a new body site occurs most exclusively during the initial infection.
In my original post i had stated. That i have had genital herpes for 12years and was just recently exposed to Oral by my partner.
Therefore, I am confused about your response.
Could you Please take a second to re-read my original posr.
Thank You

Auto-inoculation -- i.e spread of HIV to a new body site -- occurs almost exclusively during an initial infection with HSV. Having had HSV2 for 12 years, you probably couldn't infect a new body site even if you tried, so that can't explain your finger problem. And the chance it happened on account of your partner's oral HSV1 is almost as low. And no, your symptoms don't sound like whitlow.

You needn't worry. I hope this has helped. Best wishes.
