Herpes suspected by doctor....Test after 2 weeks of encounter shows -ve
Recently I had sex (more than 2 weeks ago)....A week after the sexual encounter , Red tender skin on my scrotum was observed with a painful sore kind of thing.
Upon consultation with the sexologist, He suspected that condition as Genital Herpes and now I am on the Anti viral drugs for 15 days (3 pills a day).
soon I got tested (2 weeks after the encounter) for HSV1 &HSV2 and both of them turned negative.
My question is there any chance that Herpes didn't move into the nerve or blood and still on the skin layer ....
second question : will I turn positive after a 6 week test....
I am confused ...Please help !!!!

1. How should be a swab test done? just touching the swab over the lesion or breaking open the lesion and taking the fluid inside?
2. How accurate is the swab test when the lesion is 3 days old but hasn't opened.

Perhaps the sore was already healing by the time the doctor saw it? If this was the case then this may be a reason why no swab was taken. If it was fresh then I cannot understand.
I agree that antivirals for 15 days should not have an impact on your test at 12 weeks (note 12 not 6 weeks to be conclusive).
Long term it all depends on the type and how your body deals with it. Antivirals will only be needed if your outbreaks are too frequent or you and a partner wish to reduce the chance of HSV2 transmission.

One more important info....I was mistaken for the scrotum...Its on the shaft of the penis underneath the fore skin....that I could see a single sore...!!

Still he asked me to go for IGG & IGM test along with other STD test (HIV,VDRL,HBSAG) tests. When all the tests turned negative, he now says that lets continue the antivirals (acyclovir) for 15 days and get tested at 6 weeks for HSV1 and 2 again and that will be the crucial test to confirm Herpes infection.
My question to the doc was : Will the 15 days antiviral regime interfere with 6 weeks test results. His answer was NO
So I am continuing with the antivirals...as of now to be sure that if any virus (herpes) is present, I guess I should continue the medicines...what you say ??
One more question : If confirmed "Herpes" should I need to take antiviral everyday ....? If so what are the ill effects in taking antiviral for long time ...

I think there is a pretty good chance this isn't herpes. There are two main reasons for this.
First, the scrotum is not a good site of entry for the virus. The skin is actually vey thick and contains few nerve endings.
Second, as you have no current HSV infection, at least before this encounter. A lot more than a vague sore could be expected to have arisen. In your case, lesions on the penis as unprotected sex was involved.
My suggestion would be to stop antivirals until you have a diagnosis. This will require a blood test at 12 weeks.

I encounter was with a sex worker. I was using condom during the intercourse...but suddenly the lady told me to remove the condom and continue the rest of the intercourse.I have done unprotected sex for around 2 min

Was the sex with long term partner? New girlfriend, sex worker?
Was oral sex and vaginal sex involved? Did you use protection for either or both?
What test did you have for herpes. If it wasn't IgG then it is no good.
