How can I have it?

I have been tested for herpes before we started having sex. I had a blood test done probably 5 to 6 months after I had sex with my previous partner last, but blood tests came back all negative.

I am in a very loving relationship with a girl I truly care about, and I love her more than I thought I ever could love someone. Yesterday she told me she had contracted the herpes virus from me. Her doctor assured her that I probably had no idea I had it, and very possible I gave it to her without even knowing I had it. She's devastated and I hate myself so much for this.

How can I come up negative on blood tests, have never had any type of symptoms, and still have given her the virus after 5-6 months having sex? We always use protection, but at times not from the beginning.

What are my next steps? What do I do? I don't want to ruin anything with this girl.

Could this possibly be a misdiagnosis? Could the blood tests not have shown proper results?

Her doctor is wrong or maybe she misunderstood him. Herpes can be contracted years before the first outbreak with no symptoms. Research it. Also, of she even had oral sex or any other kind of sexual intimacy without protection that has put her at risk. If your blood tests have been negative then there's virtually no way you have given it to her.

That being said, we always use protection after things get started.

Her doctor told her that the first and worst outbreak would be within 7 to 10 days from when it was contracted.

I don't think it would have been, considering that I am the first one she's ever even experimented with without any type of protection.

Have you considered that she might have gotten it years ago from someone else and it just showed up now? That's a very common occurance according to my doctor.
