How long does herpes pain last?

I was diagnosed with herpes a week ago, and my doctor prescribed 2400mg of acyclovir daily (1 pill 4 times a day) and i have 1 week more of pills to take. My sores are all healed up, but the pain in my pelvis, rear end and legs is still quite bad. How long does this pain typically last?

Thank you for your help!

what mg tablets were you given?

The first ob is 400mg acyclovir, 3x/day for 7-10 days.

The pain you are describing can last for a few weeks. take tylenol and/or advil as needed. also sometimes soaking in the tubby in epsom salts also helps.

What testing did you have done so far?

Hi Grace,

My doc prescribed 800mg of acyclovir 4x/day for 14 days (she said it was necessary since it was so severe). She did a visual diagnosis and I'm still waiting for the official results from the swab which will be in next week. My partner is asymptomatic (didn't even know he had it until he gave it to me) but believes he was exposed a few years ago. We're still waiting on his tests too.

Pretty much all that's left now is the pain and just feeling flu-ey and run down.

I'll try the epsom salts and advil does take the edge off a bit. Thank you for your help!
