How soon after an outbreak

I had sex 3 and a half weeks ago with a woman who I now know has HSV 2. (Condom but not for oral.)
I had tingling and very small bumps on the tip of my penis about a week later... fever, flu, etc.  My doc passed on the scare, but I went back and insisted... and went on Valtrex 1 gram bid for 10 days.  It's now day 7.
I blood tested a week after the beginning stages and it came back negative.  (No lessions have grown large enough to swab.)  How long do I have to wait for the antibodies to appear?  Some say 120 days... but is that even with an outbreak?  Thank you.

Hey all,
Well I've made it my 4th month.  Even through the advice from the doc.

Still no blisters... tingling, pinching and redness off and on during this whole time.  I'll give you an update on Thursday!
Thanks for all your support earlier... one day at a time.

I totally 2nd daisy's last post to you. you need to chill. Turn off the computer. stop reading about herpes. stop looking at your willy and pouring stuff on it and obesssing over every mark you see that now 2 providers say aren't due to herpes. You aren't doing yourself any good and obviously your body is suffering from it.

80% of healthy people will test positive for HSV2 by 6 weeks with an Igg HSV specific blood test.

You seriously need to chill out about this the more you play around with your mind and penis the more blemishes you will find your imagination joins ranks and before you know it your every waking moment will be "penis checking" and it's almost guarantee you will find something,so put the magnifying glass away and give your "bits" a well earned rest I'm sure your penis is somewhat traumatised by all this sudden attention lol :) .....
Constantly checking and stressing will change nothing IF and I say IF it is Herpes which it's probably not.

The original spots on my penis (which can still be seen if you look really hard) do not fit her definition of herpes.  (Present on and off for over 5 and 1/2 weeks now.)  This is the second doctor who felt that.  The soreness on the shaft she attributed to "something else" perhaps from to much attention down there... resulting in a small infection or some type.  I believe she ordered the test to reduce my concerns.... most patients don't know the sero-conversion issues I'll bet.

I had assumed that the  chills, night sweats, lack of sleep, etc which I experienced during the first few weeks were the "flu like symptoms" noted for initial episodes.  (Although, since I've had HSV 1, it wouldn't necessarily be class first episode".)   Since my blood pressure on each doctor visit (2 prior to the visit with her) was very high, she felt that many of my non genital symptoms were the result of blood pressure spikes, panic, etc.  She's now got me on bp and chlolesterol meds since those numbers were way up.
No classic symptoms have emerged other than a red area and small cutlike area along the shaft which can only be noted if you sprinkle powder (baking soda) on the skin and check it out a bit later.  You can then see the marks from moisture.  (Of course, I've done my fair share of pulling and looking.)
My new doctor seemed very good, but was quite certain that much of my concerns are pycho-somatic due to the appearance and odds due to condom use and my partners use of suppressive therapy.
Have you seen this info on HerpeSelect tests being faster than Western Blot?

Do you still think that taking Valtrex as a suppressive in the meantime would screw up test results?

Thank you.

You pretty much wasted your time and money on getting another blood test now.

What did your doctor feel was going on when you were seen again?

Read Scott333's definition of an eraser burn and I have the same thing cotinues on my shaft... only can be seen in proper light.... moist and a bit raw... but cannot be seen w\out being pointed out.
Still no classic blisters...  I had a return of flulike symptoms which was scary... the pinching has stopped somewhat.  I've been off Valtrex for 21 days now.
Doc did another blood test... which was negative, and that was 42 days post encounter so although she thought I should be happy, my readings on this place still has be scared.

Hey guy, Grace is right. You have to stop concerning yourself with down there. I'm trying to do the same thing and its very hard. Its been three months sine my encounter(unprotected oral) and I'm still freaking out. I check myself out down there all day long. Sometimes with a magnifing glass. I know, it sounds silly, but having it in your mind that you caught something thats not curable just seems to take you over... But I'm trying. Hang in there man,,, I'm feeling what your feeling... But we both have to concentrate on something else throughout the day...  Scott333

Heading to a new doc today with a calendared list of symptoms during the last month. Sunday I had a terribly sore area on my shaft... like raw skin... seems almost healed today.  The dots\small bumps on my penis head are still there if you look close, it's just the during the last month they have turned pink or red at various times... but they can still be seen if I point them out.   Pinching has subsided somewhat... returns when I stress about it.  Still no obvious lessions, scabs, discharge or pain.. just the annoying pinching and\or tingling.
I'll let you know what the doc says... off Valtrex since 10/23.

Grace, you definately live up to your divine name.  Thank you for your words.  There has never been any pain... so I will "put it away" :-) and drop in to see a new doc who isn't so quick to dismiss.  Thank you...

I recommend against popping things in the genital area.  Since you are paranoid about having contracted herpes recently to begin with, you don't want to pop things, you want to go and be seen and if they look like herpes to your practioner, they can culture them for you.

I think you are paying a hell of a lot of attention to your private parts right now.  Put it away except for when you are urinating or examining it once a day after you've showered.  No matter what else you feel during the day, unless it's unbearable pain, don't look at it closely!!! Go out and have fun and stop worrying about it so much!!!

I've had the tingling in my penis off and on since Oct 2. .. thats almost 26 days now.
How long does this continue in herpes cases?  My doc thinks that thats way to long for prodrome.... and he did even when i saw him the first time when it had only gone of for 5 days. How long should tingling\tickling in penis continue in first outbreaks?
Do you think that its return is a secondary outbreak immediately after the first which could have been suppressed with Valtrex?  Secondly, i referenced a small pus filled pimple above... in typical herpes lessions, would it rise, erupt and heal so quickly?

update: pimple, or maybe an ingrown hair, appeared on Friday night, like a teenagers pimple... popped it and it healed completely over the weekend.  No sign previous.. and i've been checking and nothing since.  three small bumps on my inner legs... like a rash from my sweats or something...  still get tingling off an on in my penis.. but that has been going on for 3 and a half weeks now... could be i'm just obsessed with that part of my body.  the original little dots on tip subsided... no pain, discharge, clusters of blisters, etc....

About 1/2 of folks will seroconvert by 2-3 weeks of being infected.  It's an accurate result at 2 weeks if it's positive but still not accurate until 16 weeks if it is negative at 2 weeks post encounter. The wording on some of the blood tests is only half of the story...

Grace,
From a link on your profile, Biokit notes that it can test for for seroconversion at 2 weeks?  Do you know if that is really true?  Seems better than watching than calendar....

Thank you for everything you do...

alright... off the valtrex... i wonder, not to be blunt, but i wonder if all of the obsessive pulling and looking at my neither regions could have resulted in the irritations....

No, treating the first ob hasn't been shown to reduce the intensity of future ob's that I'm aware of ( feel free to quote a study if you have it ).  Most recurrences are milder than the first whether you treat your initial ob or not.

Yes, the odds are in your favor that you didn't contract hsv2 from her.

i went on 1 gram valtrex 2 times a day for 10 days as a result of reading how hitting it on the first outbreak may lessen the intensity of future outbreaks.   She was on suppressive for 5 days prior and we used condoms... odds are in my favor, no?

I highly recommend stopping suppressive therapy if that's what you started.  It'll just mess up your test results if you really do have hsv2.  If you get an obvious ob then go and be seen and get it tested if it's before the 4 month mark is here.

Thank you grace...
Guess it going to be a long holiday season...
No other way I guess, right?  I went on Valtrex because of posts that if you get on it the first time, later OB's can be lessened.  Would anyone suggest to let the next one go full bore so I could get a swab?
Thank you...
