I have an active coldsores, is it safe to kiss an asymptomatic person?

I've been getting cold sores for most of my life and have always practiced avoiding all contact with a partner while having an outbreak. However the girl I'm seeing now had a cold sore once and never again since. Knowing what i know about the virus leads me to believe she has it but is asymptomatic.

My question is can I trigger an outbreak by kissing her with an active sore? Or is it "safe"?

Hi Rtk87 - according to our best researchers, once you've had an HSV type (1 or 2) for longer than 4 months or so, you are highly unlikely to be re-infected by the same HSV type. Also, your HSV recurrences are triggered by internal, not external, factors. I do recommend that you and your new partner be tested, together, for everything, so that you're both aware of what you each bring to the relationship. Lots of bugs out there to catch besides HSV - knowledge is power!

No you cannot trigger an outbreak in her, that will be down to her immune system. It is not unusual for couples to have outbreaks at the same time as they will often have the same stresses and environmental situation.
