Hsv 1 testing

If you have unprotected oral sex once with a new partner with a history of oral cold sores but none  at that time. But I developed vaginal irritation with burning seen gyn and was treated for yeast infection but same symptoms lasted for 2 weeks with groin pain for 5 months. Had a hsv antibody test at 9weeks  after exposure and was negative but  I am concerned because 5 months later my groin pain never went away. And I  read that a hsv antibody test you should be 4 months post exposure! I feel like my doctor treated me for yeast but second visit ignored my concerns. Thank you for your help

Let's just leave it that I completely disagree with your doctor.  This is my final post on your thread.

My follow up with my doctor she said she thinks I could have herpes and I questioned her that its been 6 month and I had 2 negative IGG test and a IGM 1.42 positive after 6moths  with absolutely no new exposures. I want to put this behind me. I did tell her the last blood draw I had the flu and bronchitis that same week and maybe that raised my IGM but she said she doubted it that, but said  IGM can be elevated for 12 months, that is so confusing??
since my exposure risk was so low and I only had burning and redness twice
And negative IGG after waiting 6 months I was all set??
Thanks for your help so sorry to bring this up but I was so happy 2weeks ago until she talked my at apt.

Please read back responses I have made about the completely unreliable IgM test.  Pay attention only to the IgG test, which are you saying was negative 6 months after possible infection?  If that is the case, then I would suggest that you take the herpes idea off your plate.

My test igg ..27 igm .67 at 9weeks post exposure
My most recent test was 6 months post exposure with no sexual contact since.
IGM 1.42
Combined Hsv 1/2  IGG   .18
At the time I had the blood drawn I ended up getting the flu the next morning. Do you think that is why my IGM was elevated?   I had 2 negative IGG 9 weeks and 6months after exposure is that mean I don't have Hsv??
Thank you

Yes, it would be unusual if you have HSV 1 genitally to have these symptoms so soon.  Honestly, I don't think I can be helpful to you about what this is.  While you still have symptoms, do you want to go back and been seen again?  Not necessarily to be tested for herpes, but just be seen to try to figure this out?

The past few days I started with burning and slight redness with small amount of white thin discharge  same symptoms as before and tingling in my leg,  new sympton Headache and lower back pain! I am planning on trying to find a place to have blood work tested since my doctor does not think I need a retest since I was 9 weeks after exposure snd was negative Any thought on symptoms and testing.  If it was hsv 1 genital I thought it was rare to get symptoms again?  Since I never seen soresbut only have redness and irritation do you think it can be something else?

Healthcheckusa is just a middle man, if you will.  They will send the test to either Quest or LabCorp, not certain, but both of those labs are completely reliable.

Thank you for your response! Yes I was tested for hsv 1 and 2  igg .20 and igm .67  9weeks after exposure and 7 weeks after burning redness irritation.  I had 2 ultrasounds pelvic both normal and neg chlalmydia and gon.  My doctor said  no need to retest because of having symptoms And then tested 7 wks later the antibodies should show up in the test. Since she won't retest, how reliable is healthcheckusa or should I not bother? I still have constant groin pain that I will continue to look at.  And no I never had a cold sore. Thanks again

So if the concern is getting herpes from receiving oral sex, the worry would be about HSV 1, not HSV 2. Do you know if your antibody test looked for HSV 1 and 2 or just HSV 2?   Have you had cold sores in your lifetime?  If yes, then it is unlikely that you would get genital HSV 1 infection.

Persistent groin pain is not usually related to genital herpes infection.  That would come and go rather than be persistent.

And yes, we recommend that people wait four months from the time of possible infection to the time they get the most accurate antibody test.
