Hsv1 oral and genital

Hello,
I have so many questions about genital hsv1... I have been dating the same guy for a year who gets cold sores, we have had unprotected oral sex but always protected vaginal sex. 3 weeks ago I started feeling really ill, I got a very sore throat with swollen glands in my throat, headaches, etc.. a week later i got a cold sore. I was prescribed a two day dosage of valtrex and it went away, but my sore throat never did, this past week i have been freaking out about genital hsv1 because my lymph nodes in my groin were tender, i had pain/ numbness in my left leg from my butt to my knee, but so far no blister, no painful urination, no tingling in vaginal area..... what does this all mean?? Could i have been infected with hsv1 orally and genitally at the same time??? Thanks you so much for your input

Yes indeed taking the cold sore dose of valtrex could've delayed/taken the edge off of a genital hsv1 infection. At this point unless you get any obvious lesions genitally you can have swabbed for herpes, no way to know.

Have you every had an IgG type specific blood test prior to this boyfriend?

To answer your question you could have gotten them at the same time if you kissed and then had oral sex.  However, as a female you could have other things going on down there as well.  See your doctor for a further work up and let them investigate it.

Also you might have had HSV-1 your entire life from childhood if you haven't been tested in the past.  About half of the adult us population has it and majority of us won't make it to retirement without getting it.
