Thank you so much! I just saw this now. I'm having a bad day with my anxiety wondering what this is and whether it is herpes and seeing this helped me. Mine started with a white layer that seemed to be clinging on top loosely and then it fell off revealing an even deeper ulcer. Seems backward to how herpes progresses and I've read that necrotic tissue on top can be typical of bechets ulcers or non sexually related ulcers in general which makes me hopeful. It was terribly painful and urinating was awful.
What other symptoms of Bechets do you have? I am wondering how I would go about getting a diagnosis of this. I don't know if I've had frequent oral ulcers, maybe a few?
I actually think it might be less severe because you would know right away what it was and begin meds early, which is very helpful. A lot of other people would have no clue what was going on and wait a long time to get diagnosed.
One last question regarding this matter. Since I have Behcets would it be more likely that I would have a severe primary HSV2 outbreak if I get it from my husband? Or is there any way to predict this?
My ulcer was kind of how you described yours, but not what I would call large. It was a single ulcer that was painful to touch and took a week to ten days to heal. It left a scar that is still there. I have never had another one. I believe it was white in color. Hope that helps.
Hi Worried, I was wondering if you could share what your vaginal ulcer from Bechets was like?! I had a large single ulcer and have been with my partner for 4 years who is not HSV positive that we are aware of. The studies I've read on bechets sound so much more like what I had than herpes (I got a negative herpes swab but no blood test yet). But the technical studies are difficult to interpret id love to discuss with someone who actually has been diagnosed, and how you went about getting the diagnosis. Thank you so much!!!
Yes, I have and yes, they could. Sometimes their dose of antivirals has been on the higher end, but mostly, they do fine.
Have you treated patients with autonimmune disorder and henital herpes? Were they able to manage both conditions successfully?
I'm not clear about whether having Bechets makes you more vulnerable to your husband's herpes or not, honestly. Certainly taking the medicines would. If you do contract HSV from your husband, the medicines should certainly control your symptoms, regardless of the Bechets though it might be hard to know if a lesion was one or the other.
I have had the igg antibody test for HSV 3 times and was negative for hsv 1&2 every time. I was diagnosed with having Behcets due to extensive mouth ulcers, 1 vaginal ulcer, and inflamation in the iris of one of my eyes. These symptoms happened over a course of several years. I also had intersticial cystisits about 5 years ago. I have not had the symptoms of becets since I had the cystitis so I am going to see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis. I am not on any immunosuppressing drugs for the illness since I have not had symptoms for quite some time. Does the behcets itself make me immunosuppressed or is it only if I am on medications for it? If I contract HSV 2 from my husband and take medications for it will it control the outbreaks even if I have behcets?
So sorry that I missed this post! It just slipped off my radar.
How were you diagnosed with bechets? I'm assuming you've been tested for HSV 2 and are negative by IgG antibody test? Bechet's is on of the differential diagnoses for herpes. What symptoms are you having with your Bechets? If you are indeed immunosuppressed, it may be more easy for you to contract herpes. And you may have more outbreaks than someone who is not immunosuppressed if you are not taking herpes medicines.
